Avum is hiring quality assurance specialists/testers at all experience and skill levels. As a Quality Assurance Specialist / Tester at Avum, you will be integral to implementing and advancing the quality testing strategy for large-scale, multi-system projects. You will be responsible for writing and executing comprehensive test cases, coordinating testing efforts, and ensuring the adoption of best practices throughout the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC). This role requires a proactive, self-starting individual with a strong team ethic, a solutions-focused mindset, and proven experience in complex system architectures. You will be expected to rapidly acquire expertise in the Department of Defense (DoD) electronic Procure-to-Pay (P2P) environment.

  • Junior position: Assisting and supporting with tasks like writing test cases, debugging and documenting defects, and participating in training.
  • Mid-level position: Besides junior responsibilities, you will complete risk assessments and communicate results. You will serve as QA point-of-contact for pre-release signoff procedures and ensure broader adherence to compliance/regulatory requirements.
  • Senior position: Leads testing activities, documents and assesses Test Entrance and Exit Criteria, assists other teams with evaluating and integrating applications/environments/processes, provides measurable assessment of QA efforts and recommends process changes, and serves as backup to the Government QA Lead.

What You'll Be Doing (Comensurate with level):

  • Develop, implement, and refine quality assurance methodologies and testing strategies.
  • Write, execute, and maintain test plans, test cases, test scripts, and test data for various testing phases.
  • Test and troubleshoot code using complex industry programs and practices to detect quality issues with functionality and performance.
  • Support and potentially lead contractor and government personnel in diverse testing activities, including Test Readiness Reviews (TRR), Regression Testing, Functional Testing, System Level Developmental Testing (DT), Cybersecurity Testing, User Acceptance Testing (UAT), Interface/API Testing, Integration Testing, Smoke Testing, Unit Testing, Performance/Load Testing, and Compliance Testing.
  • Review and analyze business and technical requirements to define comprehensive testing needs and ensure complete coverage.
  • Conduct risk and impact analysis, promptly escalating issues threatening project timelines or quality.
  • Consult with QA/Test Leads, QA colleagues, development teams, analysts, and end-users to ensure application systems meet all functional, end-user, and compliance/regulatory requirements.
  • Proactively communicate project status, testing efforts, impediments, and task-specific updates to project team members and QA leadership.
  • Complete risk assessments and communicate results throughout the development cycle, potentially as a QA point-of-contact for pre-release signoff procedures.
  • Create and maintain thorough documentation related to organizational and project testing efforts (e.g., test plans, test cases, test results, traceability matrices).
  • Represent QA in project meetings, collaborating effectively with team members and contributing to discussions with a solution-focused approach.
  • Train and mentor junior QA resources.
  • Stay current with new testing tools and test strategies.

What You Will Need (Comensurate with level):

  • Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college or university in computer science, information systems, engineering, or a related field, or an applicable training certificate.
  • Demonstrable experience (1 - 8+ years, commensurate with specific leveling) in Quality Assurance roles within a project team.
  • Proven experience with test planning, test case design and management, and defect analysis across various technology stacks (e.g., Java, Oracle, Appian, AWS, MarkLogic).
  • Recent and relevant experience identifying and executing functional and regression test cases to verify business and technical requirements.
  • Proficiency with testing software such as Selenium, Cucumber, and Postman.
  • Experience with relational database systems, including the ability to write SQL queries for testing and data validation.
  • Strong ability to critically review project documentation (requirements, design documents) and identify QA needs and potential risks.
  • Excellent capability to proactively identify, articulate, and help resolve issues and obstacles, and report on overall project status.
  • Experience working with project management tools (e.g., Jira).
  • Familiarity and experience with projects utilizing agile methodologies (specifically SAFe & Scrum).
  • Experience supporting an Agile Testing Approach, including the use of Agile Testing Quadrants.
  • It is highly desirable to have the capability in Design of Experiments (DOE) to plan, conduct, analyze, and interpret controlled tests.
  • Experience writing automated tests within a Selenium-supported framework is a strong plus.
  • Familiarity with continuous integration/continuous delivery (CI/CD) environments (experience with Jenkins, AWS is a plus).
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills that foster a team-focused, success-oriented environment.
  • Self-directed with a proven ability to manage deadlines, prioritize tasks effectively, and work independently.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen and able to pass a T3 background investigation.

If You Have This, It’s A Plus:

  • Experience with government procurement systems is a significant advantage.
  • A US government clearance of public trust or higher.

Location:

The candidate must interact and coordinate remotely with external project team members and other Avum employees. As a remote employee, the candidate will not have a permanent office or desk space but may be required to attend in-person meetings. This may require travel to government sites in Washington, D.C., and the Avum office in Agoura Hills, California. Our priority is acquiring the most qualified candidate to satisfactorily perform the required tasks, including team collaboration, regardless of the candidate’s geographical location.

NOTE: This fully remote role requires the candidate to participate in meetings virtually using tools like Microsoft Teams. Online availability will be needed during the core Eastern Standard Time (EST) hours, Monday through Friday.
