Job summary

Valor Compounding Pharmacy seeks a Quality Assurance Pharmacist to verify the quality of compounded medications and advise on pharmacotherapy. This full-time role reports to the Pharmacist in Charge and includes both phone and in-person consultations.

You will verify preparation quality, labeling, and entries, counsel patients, and lead staff education while ensuring HIPAA and regulatory compliance in a fast-paced Berkeley environment.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited school of pharmacy with a Bachelor of Science or PharmD.
• Licensed and in good standing with the CA Board of Pharmacy.
• 1–3 years experience in compounding pharmacy preferred.
• Experience with pharmacy software, pharmacology, knowledge of legal compliance, FDA health regulations.
• Pass drug screen, background check, and pre-employment verification.
• Read, understand, and be compliant with HIPAA.
• Dependable, punctual, and able to meet deadlines.
• Lead a team, be accountable, and have good ethics.
• Ability to manage a pharmacy, including budgets and staff training on policies.
• Excellent customer service skills and communication.
• Able to communicate effectively in English
• Good attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.

About the role

The Quality Assurance Pharmacist is responsible for verifying the quality of compounded medications and providing consultations over the phone and in-person. This is a full-time position, reporting directly to the Pharmacist in Charge.

What you'll do

• Complete pharmacy operational requirements
• Verify the preparation, quality, and labeling of compound medications
• Verify order entries, charges, and inspections
• Prepare medications by reviewing and interpreting physician orders, detecting therapeutic incompatibilities
• Dispense medications by compounding, packaging, and labeling pharmaceuticals
• Provide pharmacological information by answering questions and requests of healthcare professionals
• Counsel patients on drug therapies
• Develop staff's pharmacological knowledge by participating in clinical programs; training pharmacy staff, students, interns, externs, residents, and health care professionals
• Comply with state and federal drug laws as regulated by the state board of pharmacy, the drug enforcement administration, and the food and drug administration; maintaining records for controlled substances; removing outdated and damaged drugs from the pharmacy inventory; supervising the work results of support personnel; maintaining current registration; studying existing and new legislation; anticipating legislation; advising management on needed actions
• Maintain a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
• Maintain pharmacological knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies
• Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed

Qualifications

• Lead a team, be accountable, and have good ethics and etiquette
• Ability to manage a pharmacy, including working with budgets and ensuring staff is trained and knowledgeable on Valor's policies and procedures and State’s Pharmacy Rules and Regulations

• Working Conditions: standing, walking, sitting, reaching above shoulders, reaching waist level, reaching below the knee, climbing, lifting above shoulder up to 20 lbs and lifting waist level up to 20 lbs.

Valor’s pay band range for this position is $65 to $73 per hour. This salary range may include multiple levels. Your level is based on our assessment of your interview performance and experience, which you can always ask the hiring manager about to understand in more detail. Salary is just one component of Valor’s total compensation package for employees.
