The ideal candidate has 8+ years in industrial manufacturing quality management, strong ISO 9001 knowledge, and a proven record in CAPA, NCR, and quality documentation development.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

Job description

We are seeking an experienced Quality Manager to lead our client's quality department at the Chicago manufacturing facility. This role requires a hands‑on leader who can build quality systems, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and Quality Management Systems (QMS) from the ground up. Beyond technical expertise, the ideal candidate is an empathetic, high‑accountability people manager dedicated to coaching, mentoring, and developing a high‑performing quality control and assurance team.

Key Responsibilities

• Quality Systems & Documentation (From Scratch): Design, author, implement, and maintain comprehensive quality documentation, including SOPs, quality manuals, work instructions, and inspection standard operating procedures.
• Leadership & Team Management: Direct, mentor, and empower quality engineers, inspectors, and technicians. Establish KPIs, conduct performance evaluations, and foster a culture of accountability and continuous learning on the plant floor.
• Process Implementation: Embed new quality procedures seamlessly into daily operations, collaborating closely with plant management, engineering, and production teams to ensure minimal operational friction.
• Compliance & Auditing: Drive compliance with industry standards (e.g., ISO 9001). Lead internal audits and manage external regulatory and customer audit processes.
• Root Cause & Corrective Action: Oversee non‑conformance reporting (NCR) and corrective/preventive action (CAPA) programs using 8D, 5‑Why, and Fishbone methodologies.
• Supplier & Customer Quality: Manage incoming material quality standards and lead responses to customer quality inquiries or field failure investigations.

Qualifications & Requirements

• Experience: 8+ years of quality management experience within an industrial manufacturing environment.
• System Creation: Proven track record of drafting, introducing, and institutionalizing quality documentation and workflows from scratch.
• People Leadership: Demonstrated ability to manage, train, and build trust across a multi‑shift manufacturing team.
• Technical Skills: Strong proficiency in ISO 9001, Root Cause Analysis, Statistical Process Control (SPC), and continuous improvement frameworks (Lean/Six Sigma).
• Education/Certifications: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Operations, or related field (or equivalent practical experience). Certified Quality Manager (CQM) or Six Sigma Black Belt preferred.
