Job summary

Leidos is seeking a Seasonal Quality Assurance Engineer to join the Antarctic Support Contract (ASC) Quality team and provide field-focused quality assurance support for construction, sustainment, and project execution activities in support of Antarctic operations.

The role emphasizes inspection and test plan (ITP) verification, construction plan and specification review, field surveillance, quality records, nonconformance documentation, and risk-informed audits and assessments.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Deploy to Antarctica for 8–16 weeks as needed (Austral Summer 2027).
• Perform field quality inspections and surveillance of construction, maintenance, and project work against drawings, specs, submittals, ITPs and contract requirements.
• Read and interpret construction drawings, schedules, specs, submittals, RFIs, and design changes to verify readiness and conformance.
• Support development and execution of ITPs, inspection checklists, hold points, witness points, and acceptance criteria.
• Conduct preparatory and follow-up quality checks; document deficiencies and follow-up actions.
• Assist in risk-informed audits, site walkdowns, interviews, and fact-finding reviews to gauge QC effectiveness.
• Identify, document, and disposition quality issues, nonconforming work, punch lists and corrective actions per program processes.
• Coordinate with project management, construction, engineering, safety, subcontractors, and on-ice staff to resolve issues and maintain records of decisions.
• Support close-out, turnover, commissioning, and certification packages by verifying inspections, tests, material records, and as-built information are complete.

Leidos is seeking a Seasonal Quality Assurance Engineer to join the Antarctic Support Contract (ASC) Quality team and provide field-focused quality assurance support for construction, sustainment, and project execution activities in support of Antarctic operations. The role emphasizes inspection and test plan (ITP) verification, construction plan and specification review, field surveillance, quality records, nonconformance documentation, and risk-informed audits and assessments.

The position requires seasonal deployment to Antarctic stations for supporting the ASC Quality team and assigned subcontractor Quality Assurance staff and may include pre-deployment temporary duty travel for project familiarization, training, planning, or coordination.

** Successful completion of the physical and dental examinations required by the NSF for deploying to Antarctica is a nonnegotiable requirement.

** Due to contract requirements, US Citizenship is required.

** Must obtain a Public Trust security clearance prior to starting. This process could take up to 4 months.

Primary responsibilities

• Deployment to Antarctica is required and may be in length from 8-16 weeks depending on need. Anticipated deployment to be Austral Summer 2027 (Oct - Mar).
• Perform field quality inspections and surveillances of construction, maintenance, and project work against approved drawings, specifications, submittals, ITPs, contract requirements, and applicable codes or standards.
• Read and interpret construction plans, prints, technical specifications, schedules, shop drawings, submittals, RFIs, and design changes to verify work readiness, acceptance criteria, and conformance.
• Support development, review, and execution of ITPs, inspection checklists, hold points, witness points, test requirements, and objective evidence needed for release, turnover, or acceptance of work.
• Conduct preparatory, initial, and follow-up quality checks for definable features of work; document deficiencies, completion status, inspection results, and required follow-up actions.
• Assist in risk-informed audits, field assessments, site walkdowns, interviews, and fact-finding reviews to evaluate quality control effectiveness, project execution risk, and corrective action implementation.
• Identify, document, and help disposition quality issues, nonconforming work, punch-list items, lessons learned, and recommended corrective or preventive actions in accordance with program processes.
• Coordinate with project management, construction management, engineering, safety, subcontractors, and on-ice personnel to resolve quality issues, reduce rework, and maintain clear records of decisions and verification activities.
• Support close-out, turnover, commissioning, and certification packages by verifying required inspections, tests, material records, as-built information, and acceptance documentation are complete and traceable.

Requirements/Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering, construction management, quality management, or a related field; additional directly relevant experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
• Three or more years of experience in construction QA/QC, project engineering, field engineering, construction management, inspection, or a closely related construction role.
• Demonstrated ability to read and interpret construction drawings, schedules, specifications, submittals, and technical documentation.
• Working knowledge of construction QA/QC practices, inspection and testing, nonconformance management, corrective action, and quality record control.
• Ability to independently prioritize assigned quality activities, conduct field walkdowns, document objective evidence, and communicate findings clearly in writing and verbally.
• Ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams in remote, industrial, or active construction environments while complying with applicable safety, environmental, health, and waste management requirements.
• Ability to complete all required pre-employment, deployment, medical, dental, background, access, and training requirements applicable to Antarctic deployment and contract performance.
• U.S. citizenship or permanent residence required, subject to contract requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience supporting federal, industrial, infrastructure, utilities, fuels, civil, mechanical, electrical, or facilities sustainment projects.
• Certification or training such as ISO 9001 Internal or Lead Auditor, ASQ CQI/CQT/CQA/CQE, USACE/NAVFAC Construction Quality Management, ICC, AWS/CWI, API/STI, NACE/AMPP, or related construction inspection credentials.
• Familiarity with applicable construction and industrial standards such as ICC codes, IBC, IFC, IMC, IPC, NFPA, ASTM, ASME, AWS, API, ANSI, or other standards relevant to assigned work.
• Experience conducting risk-based audits or assessments, supplier or subcontractor quality surveillance, root cause analysis, corrective action verification, or effectiveness reviews.
• Prior experience in remote, expeditionary, polar, shipboard, military, or other logistically constrained work environments

Budgeted compensation for the role is $89/K. Additional uplift pay will be provided during deployment time period.
