Job description

QA Technology Delivery Lead – Healthcare

Location: Boston, MA area (Hybrid)

Candidates must live within reasonable travel distance of Boston and be able to work onsite multiple times per month.

Overview

We’re seeking a senior, hands-on QA Technology Delivery Lead to shape quality-engineering strategy within a complex healthcare environment. This role combines automation engineering, technical leadership, AI-testing expertise, delivery ownership, and executive-level consulting.

This is not a traditional QA Manager role. You’ll remain close to the code—reviewing and improving automation, troubleshooting complex issues, and coaching engineers—while leading quality strategy, release readiness, and continuous improvement across teams.

What You’ll Do
  • Lead and mentor QA and Automation Engineers while remaining hands-on with test automation code, framework design, debugging, and technical problem-solving.
  • Build and evolve scalable UI, API, integration, mobile, and end-to-end automation frameworks using Java, C#, and/or Python.
  • Establish quality strategy, risk-based test planning, release-readiness processes, quality metrics, and go/no-go recommendations.
  • Integrate automated testing and quality gates into CI/CD pipelines and improve test stability, test data, environments, and defect-resolution processes.
  • Define testing approaches for AI agents, LLM-powered applications, generative AI features, and AI/ML-driven functionality.
  • Lead cloud and platform-testing strategy across APIs, microservices, containerized applications, Kubernetes, distributed systems, and cloud environments.
  • Partner with product, engineering, security, compliance, data, and delivery leaders to manage quality risks in a regulated healthcare setting.
  • Communicate quality status, technical risks, release recommendations, and measurable improvement opportunities to senior stakeholders.
  • Support solution development, estimation, and growth of quality-engineering capabilities.
Required Qualifications
  • 12+ years of experience across software engineering, QA engineering, quality engineering, and/or test automation.
  • 2+ years in a hands-on QA technical leadership role.
  • Recent experience programming and developing automation frameworks; Java strongly preferred, with C# and/or Python also considered.
  • Strong knowledge of object-oriented programming, design patterns, framework architecture, and software-engineering practices.
  • Experience with tools such as Selenium, Playwright, Appium, WebdriverIO, REST Assured, Postman, TestNG, JUnit, and Maven.
  • Experience integrating automated tests and quality gates into CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, or similar tools.
  • Experience testing cloud-hosted applications on AWS, Azure, and/or GCP.
  • Experience testing APIs, integrations, microservices, distributed systems, and cloud-native applications.
  • Practical experience testing AI agents, LLM-powered applications, generative AI, and/or AI/ML features.
  • Experience leading engineers while remaining technically involved in coding, automation, and troubleshooting.
  • Healthcare or other highly regulated-industry experience, including privacy, compliance, traceability, and operational-risk considerations.
  • Strong communication, facilitation, stakeholder-management, and executive-presentation skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting healthcare providers, health plans, life sciences, or healthcare technology platforms.
  • Familiarity with HIPAA-regulated environments, healthcare data, privacy, interoperability, or compliance needs.
  • Experience with Kubernetes, observability tools, containerized applications, and SRE practices.
  • Experience with accessibility, performance, ETL/data, mobile, or security testing.
  • Experience establishing quality-engineering strategy across multiple programs or delivery teams.
  • Experience creating QA transformation roadmaps, business cases, or capability-growth plans.
Ideal Background

This role is best suited for a senior quality-engineering leader who can operate at three levels:

  • Technical: Hands-on automation, framework architecture, troubleshooting, and AI-testing.
  • Delivery: Team leadership, release governance, risk management, and continuous improvement.
  • Strategic: Clear recommendations and quality leadership for senior business and technology stakeholders.

Candidates whose recent experience is primarily people management, project coordination, or manual testing will not be a fit.
