The Corrections Qualified Mental Health Professional functions as part of a multi-disciplinary treatment team, providing a range of professional treatment services to mentally ill and/or mentally disabled prisoners within the Michigan Department of Corrections. Responsibilities include mental health evaluations, referral to appropriate care levels, treatment, monitoring progress, and ensuring continuity of care. The role involves psychosocial assessments, interventions, consultations, and assisting with community discharges.
Michigan license to practice as a psychologist, social worker, counselor, registered nurse, or other QMHP is required. Positions are drug-tested pre-appointment, randomly, and post-accident.
Applicants should have knowledge of mental health counseling, assessments, crisis intervention, treatment planning, and related areas. Ability to work with other disciplines, make independent judgments, communicate effectively, develop therapeutic relationships, and maintain records is essential.
