Job summary

The Waters of Syracuse in Syracuse, IN is seeking a Qualified Medication Aide (QMA) to administer medications under the supervision of a licensed nurse. The role emphasizes safety, accurate documentation, and adherence to federal and state regulations and company policies.

The successful candidate will hold a current QMA license, provide required documentation, and perform duties including medication administration, vital signs monitoring, MAR documentation, and collaboration with nursing staff

Qualifications

• Must have current QMA license and be able to provide all necessary documentation.

Responsibilities

• Administer medications under supervision of a licensed nurse with safety and sound judgment.
• Observe residents for drug reactions and report concerns to the nurse immediately.
• Monitor residents' vital signs.
• Calculate medication dosages and stock the medication cart.
• Document medications given on MAR chart.
• Report to the nurse on duty about residents’ responses and any pertinent information.
• Obtain instructions before administering PRN medications.
• Audit documentation for accuracy and timeliness.

The Qualified Medication Aide (QMA) will administer medications with safety techniques and sound judgment under the supervision of a licensed nurse. The person holding this position is delegated the responsibility for carrying out the assigned duties and responsibilities in accordance with current existing federal and state regulations and established company policies and procedures.

QMA JOB DUTIES:

QMAs will administer the following medications

• Oral medications, including scheduled medications
• PRN medications, only after authorization of nurse, then nurse will assess and document effectiveness
• Inhalers
• Nebulizer treatments, only if nurse completes lung assessment before and after and documents findings
• Topical and rectal ointments
• Nasal sprays and drops
• Eye ointments and drops
• Ear ointments and drops
• Non-invasive treatments

• Observes residents for drug reactions and reports any concerns to the nurse immediately
• Monitors residents vital signs
• Calculates medication dosages and stocks the medication cart
• Documents what medications were given for the day on the medication administrator record (MAR) chart
• Reports to the nurse on duty general and specific information pertaining to the response of the residents to their medications or treatments and any other pertinent or appropriate information
• Reports to the nurse on duty for instructions before administering any PRN medication
• Audits documentation to assure accurate, complete, and timely recording of medications and treatments

QMA EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

Must have current QMA, unencumbered state license and must be able to provide all necessary documentation.
