QC Scientist - Analytical Equipment Support

Lilly is constructing an advanced manufacturing facility for API production in Lebanon, IN. This greenfield site represents Lilly's largest manufacturing investment, aiming to supply APIs for current and future products. This role offers a unique opportunity to be part of the startup leadership team, helping to build the organization, facility, and culture for successful GMP manufacturing operations.

Position Description:

The Analytical Equipment Support Group (AESG) Scientist provides technical leadership and expertise in analytical instrumentation. We seek a scientist with a strong engineering focus to maintain advanced analytical equipment, ensuring data accuracy and reliability. Responsibilities include collaborating with cross-functional teams, troubleshooting, developing engineering solutions, and reviewing protocols and reports. The role involves sharing technical knowledge and best practices within the group.

Key Objectives/Deliverables:
  1. Manage and maintain advanced analytical equipment for optimal performance.
  2. Collaborate with teams to integrate analytical findings into practical applications.
  3. Troubleshoot and resolve equipment issues; perform routine maintenance, calibration, and qualification.
  4. Design and implement engineering improvements to enhance equipment performance.
  5. Stay informed on advancements in analytical equipment and methodologies.
  6. Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and standards.
  7. Manage the equipment lifecycle comprehensively.
  8. Represent LP1on Global Lab Equipment Network.
  9. Adhere to global quality standards related to computer systems.
  10. Identify systemic issues affecting analytical testing in QC.
  11. Research and recommend new technologies.
  12. Mentor scientists and technicians within and outside QC.
  13. Coordinate with internal and external organizations on instrument selection, usage, and troubleshooting.
  14. Work with lab SMEs for procurement, setup, and validation of lab equipment.
  15. Create maintenance instructions and establish engineering controls.
  16. Manage drafting and review of cGMP documents.
  17. Develop maintenance strategies and qualification protocols.
  18. Participate in self-assessments and audits.
  19. Provide technical review and verification (SPV).
  20. Maintain and improve quality systems.
  21. Support investigations and prepare relevant technical documents.
Basic Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in chemistry or engineering and 1+ year in a GMP environment OR
  • 10+ years managing maintenance or analytical equipment in GMP settings.
Additional Preferences:
  • Experience in engineering, maintenance, or technical support.
  • Recognized technical expertise in analytical equipment.
  • Scientific and technical expertise.
  • Strong teamwork, decision-making, multitasking, and prioritization skills.
  • Problem-solving in complex instrumentation.
  • GMP/GLP environment experience.
  • Troubleshooting skills.
  • Knowledge of spectroscopy, chromatography, and mass spectrometry.
  • Peer-reviewed publications.
  • Project management and leadership experience.
  • Knowledge of engineering principles related to analytical equipment.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and software skills.

The salary range for this position is $63,000 - $162,800, with eligibility for bonuses and comprehensive benefits, including 401(k), health coverage, paid time off, and well-being programs. Compensation may vary based on education, experience, and location. Lilly reserves the right to modify its compensation and benefits policies.
