Job summary

Rust-Oleum is seeking a Quality Control Technician to assist with applying established QC procedures for production batches and new materials. You will compile and summarize data, communicate deviations, and maintain records in the D365 system.

The role requires attention to detail and the ability to work with limited supervision. Responsibilities include batch checks, advising on adjustments, rechecking batches, and calibrating QC equipment in a normal laboratory environment.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma and basic math and writing skills.
  • Proficient with Excel and strong written communication.
  • Experience in QC or batchmaking is helpful but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Check production batches against standards.

  • Consult with QC manager on out-of-spec products.
  • Approve product record data in D365.
  • Check bulk raw materials against specs on receipt.
  • Consult QC manual for analysis requirements.
  • Calibrate QC/QA equipment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Job description

GENERAL SUMMARY

Assists with application and monitoring of established quality procedures and methods for production batches and new raw materials. Compiles, tabulates and summarizes QC data for analysis. Prepares and communicates variables and deviations from prescribed standards of quality. Maintains statistical records having to do with quality, nature and causes of defects in D365. Expedites and follows up changes to allow for prescribed quality standards.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  1. Check production batches by comparison to standards
  2. Advise batchmaker of any necessary adjustments to apply to product batch
  3. Recheck batch after adjustments are made until product is within standard product specifications
  4. Use proper analytical tools to compare product to standard specifications and to wet and/or dry samples
  5. Record results of comparison in D365
  6. Consult with QC manager on products more than 10% out of product specifications
  7. Upon approval of product record data in D365
  8. Check bulk raw materials against standard product specifications upon receipt
  9. Consult Quality control manual for specific requirements for product analysis of production batches as well as raw materials
  10. Calibrate QC/QA equipment as required
  11. Other duties as assigned by supervisor/manager

Experience and Education Required
  1. High school diploma
  2. Proficient math and written communication skills
  3. Good computer skills – knowledge of Excel required

  1. Up to three years in industry related QC field helpful
  2. Prior batchmaking experience helpful

Specific Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required
  1. Successful completion of Munsel Color test, helpful
  2. Familiarity with products used in batchmaking processes
  3. Familiarity with standard analytical tools

Reasoning Ability
  1. Employee must work with limited supervision following written and verbal instructions.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals to perform the essential functions.

Occasional lifting and/or carrying of up to 40 lbs. Is required. Standing for extended periods of time (approximately 90% of 8-hour shift) is required with some sitting, walking, reaching, handling, bending and stooping.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Normal laboratory industry related environment conditions are present in the QC/QA laboratory. Employee on occasion will be required to go into the manufacturing areas, where normal manufacturing environment conditions are present. The company provides any required personal protective equipment.
