Job summary

National Strand Products, LP in Baytown, TX seeks a QC Technician to support quality control in a manufacturing environment.

You will perform mechanical and destructive testing, prepare specimens, and document results to verify materials meet customer and internal requirements.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2+ years of laboratory testing, quality control, or quality assurance experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in science, Engineering Technology, Materials Science, or related technical field preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Strong working knowledge of MS Office and other support software; able to use precision measuring instruments.
  • Familiarity with laboratory testing equipment, calibration practices, and quality documentation.
  • Ability to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Responsibilities

  • Review specifications, test procedures, and customer requirements to understand testing scope and acceptance criteria.
  • Perform destructive and mechanical testing, including tensile testing, per applicable standards.
  • Prepare test specimens and conduct testing to verify materials meet customer and internal requirements.
  • Record and document test results by completing reports and entering data into quality databases.
  • Perform dimensional inspections using micrometers, calipers, height gauges, and other measuring instruments.
  • Calibrate, verify, and maintain laboratory and inspection equipment according to calibration schedules.
  • Assist in investigating nonconforming materials and report test failures with corrective actions.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment, tools, and work areas in clean, safe condition.
  • Support production and quality teams with testing data, technical assistance, and recommendations.
  • Update knowledge through training and continuing education.

Job description

  • Performs destructive and mechanical testing, including tensile testing and other laboratory evaluations in accordance with applicable standards and procedures.
  • Prepares test specimens and conducts testing to ensure materials and products meet customer specifications and internal quality requirements.
  • Records and documents test results by completing reports, entering data into quality databases, and maintaining laboratory records.
  • Performs dimensional inspections using precision measuring equipment such as micrometers, calipers, height gauges, and other measuring instruments.
  • Calibrates, verifies, and maintains laboratory and inspection equipment to ensure accuracy and compliance with calibration schedules.
  • Assists in investigating nonconforming materials and reports test failures while identifying and recommending corrective actions and process improvements.
  • Maintains laboratory equipment, tools, and work areas in clean, organized, and safe conditions.
  • Monitors testing and measuring equipment to ensure proper functionality and reports any equipment issues requiring maintenance or repair.
  • Supports production and quality teams by providing testing data, technical assistance, and quality-related recommendations.
  • Updates job knowledge by engaging in educational opportunities and regular training.
  • Ensures compliance with company safety policies, laboratory procedures, and quality management system requirements.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
Experience

Minimum 2+ years of laboratory testing, quality control, or quality assurance experience in a manufacturing environment. Experience in performing tensile testing, mechanical testing, and calibration activities preferred.

Education

Associate or bachelor’s degree in science, Engineering Technology, Materials Science, or related technical field preferred.

Communication

Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal communication.

Technology

Strong working knowledge of MS Office and other support software. Ability to use precision measuring instruments including micrometers, calipers, and gauges. Familiarity with laboratory testing equipment, calibration practices, and quality documentation. Must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Rotating shifts, overtime and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.

Travel

This position might require occasional travel.

Work Environment

The position operates in a professional office environment using standard office equipment such as computers, iPads, phones, copiers, and filing cabinets. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and moving mechanical parts.
