Job summary

Qavvik is seeking a highly experienced Pilot-in-Command (PIC) to lead flight operations from our Alaska air base. The PIC will plan, prepare, and execute assigned flights in compliance with FARs, company policies, and SOPs, ensuring safety for passengers, crew, and equipment.

The ideal candidate brings extensive aviation knowledge, strong leadership, and sound decision-making under pressure. Expect assignments at Qavvik Air Operations Base with potential relocation as business needs change.

Qualifications

  • Must hold Commercial Pilot certificate with appropriate category and class ratings, and an Instrument rating.
  • Has 2,500 hours of flight time including 500 hours cross-country, 500 hours night, and 500 hours IFR.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience flying in western or Bush Alaska; familiarity with operations and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out duties outlined in the Operations Manual with strict adherence to procedures.
  • Ensure safe and efficient conduct of the flight.
  • Maintain professional appearance and proper attire; enforce SOPs.
  • Plan flights with route, weather, NOTAMs, passengers and load information; review procedures and filing requirements.
  • Prepare company risk assessments prior to each flight; perform pre-flight checks and documentation.
  • Oversee weight and balance, fueling and de-icing as required; ensure cargo is secure.
  • Maintain flight and maintenance logs with times, trends, and inspections.
  • Handle passenger boarding and cargo unloading as required.
  • Perform other duties as determined by management.

Job Description

Reporting directly to the Chief Pilot, the PIC is responsible for the planning, preparation, and execution of assigned flights in accordance with all applicable Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs), company policies, standard operating procedures, and operational requirements. The PIC serves as the final authority for the aircraft and is accountable for ensuring the safety of passengers, crew, and equipment while maintaining the highest standards of professionalism and operational excellence.

The ideal candidate will possess extensive aviation knowledge, strong leadership and crew resource management skills, exceptional judgment, and the ability to make sound decisions in dynamic and high-pressure environments. A commitment to safety, regulatory compliance, and customer service is essential for success in this role.

This position shall be assigned to a Qavvik Air Operations Base, however the company reserves the right to change this assignment at any time for business or operational need.

Responsibilities
  • Carry out all duties and responsibilities outlined in the Operations Manual, ensuring strict adherence to operational procedures.

    • Plan the flight, gathering all relevant information such as the route, weather conditions, destination, and alternate airports, NOTAMS, passenger and load information.

    • Prepare a company Risk Assessment Form prior to each flight
    • Pre-Flight Checks and Documentation:
      • Ensure all required paperwork is on board the
      • Conduct pre-flight inspections and verify that all maintenance items have been properly addressed and signed off by authorized maintenance personnel.
      • Confirm that all inspections are current and that the flight can be completed without any pending maintenance or Airworthiness Directives (ADs).
  • Weight and Balance Considerations:
    • Ensure proper fueling and de-icing if required of the
    • Oversee the loading and securing of cargo, ensuring compliance with weight and balance
  • Flight and Maintenance Log:
    • Keep accurate records in the aircraft's Flight and Maintenance Log, including flight and block times, trend monitoring, cycles, VOR checks, and maintenance write-ups or notations as necessary.
  • Passenger and Cargo Handling:
    • Ensure proper deplaning of passengers and unloading of cargo at their respective

Qualifications
  • Meet the minimum qualifications as specified in Federal Aviation Regulations Part 243 and 135.297
  • Must hold at least a Commercial Pilot certificate with appropriate category and class ratings and, an Instrument rating.
  • Has had at least 2,500 hours of flight time as a pilot, including 500 hours of cross-country flight time, 500 hours of night flight time, and 500 hours of actual IFR (Requirement for IFR).
  • A minimum of 1 years of experience flying in western or Bush Alaksa required, to include a full

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

Weather: Indoors and outdoors operating in diverse climates including exposure to inclement weather. Noise level: The noise level in the work environment is moderate to high noise levels.

Description of environment: Diverse environments including office settings, airports, flight decks, and aircraft cabins.

Physical requirements: Possess adequate physical fitness to handle the physical demands of operating controls, performing pre-flight inspections, and handling emergency situations. Good vision, including color vision and depth perception, is essential for visual navigation and instrument reading. Pilots should meet the medical requirements set by the appropriate aviation authorities.

MEDEVAC assigned pilots may be required to assist in the lifting of patients under the supervision of medical personnel, the weights of the patients may vary.

Travel: Employee may travel up to 100% to various locations within the U.S. and/or remote locations and may be required to use alternative modes of transportation, including but not limited to snow machines and ATVs.

Pilot work locations and base assignments may change from time to time based on business needs, staffing requirements, flight schedules, customer needs, or other operational considerations.

Management will make reasonable efforts to communicate changes in advance when possible, but reserves the right to make location or assignment changes with or without advance notice as business needs require.

Safety Management: Safety is a top priority for a PIC. They should have a comprehensive understanding of safety protocols, procedures, and regulations. They should actively identify and mitigate risks, promote a safety culture, and make safety-conscious decisions throughout the flight.

Communication Skills: Effective communication is essential for a PIC to convey instructions, receive information, and communicate with air traffic control and other aviation personnel. They should have strong verbal and non-verbal communication skills to ensure clear and accurate transmission of information.
