Job summary

IBM Z Engineering System Test is seeking a QA/Test Engineer intern in Poughkeepsie. You will assist in testing IBM Z hardware components, collaborate with firmware teams, diagnose issues, support lab testing, and help document test results. You may design test automation and contribute to procedures to improve regression testing.

Flat-team collaboration with hardware and software engineers, with emphasis on learning and growth in a hybrid work environment within IBM's Z Systems division.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required; Bachelor's preferred.
• Fundamental education in hardware, software, or testing.
• Strong communication skills and teamwork-focused attitude.
• Experience with Python coding and scripting; Linux proficiency.
• Experience building and deploying containerized applications.

Responsibilities

• Test mainframe hardware components including processors, memory, and I/O systems.
• Collaborate with firmware and systems engineering to ensure hardware–software integration.
• Diagnose and resolve hardware issues through testing, debugging and failure analysis.
• Support lab testing: hardware bring-up, functional verification, and environmental testing.
• Contribute to procedures and test results documentation.
• Design and implement test automation to support regression testing.
