Job summary

Thompson Pipe Group – Pressure in Palatka, FL is seeking a Quality Assurance Technician II.

You will work with the Quality department to assure the highest level of product quality, collaborating with engineering, project management, and production teams to resolve issues and improve processes.\n\nThis role requires hands-on testing, inspection, and documentation, including NDE/NDT coordination, audits, and training of junior staff.

Qualifications

  • Previous QA, QC, or production experience in related industry.
  • Experience with concrete, coatings, welding, or NDE/NDT.
  • Certification or trainee level in ACI, AWS, NACE/SPCC, API 510/570/577.

Responsibilities

  • Study and understand the TPG Quality Manual and procedures.
  • Inspect pieces and components with micrometers, calipers, gauges, and related tools.
  • Perform in-process and final inspections including coating, concrete, lining, welding.
  • Conduct nondestructive examination/testing (NDE/NDT) and coordinate with vendors.
  • Complete QA inspection/test reports and calibration records.
  • Conduct internal audits as assigned by Quality Management.
  • Train lesser-experienced personnel as needed.

Thompson Pipe Group is currently looking for a Quality Assurance Technician II for our Palatka, FL facility.

Teaming with production and operations, the Quality Assurance Technician II will work with the Quality department team to jointly assure the highest level of quality in all Thompson Pipe Group – Pressure products. The position will collaborate with various departments, including engineering and project management, on matters specific to product quality.

Responsibilities

Quality Requirements

  • Study and understand the TPG Quality Manual and repair procedures.
  • Study and understand the various codes, specifications, drawings, and procedures used in the daily operations of the department.

Testing

  • Proficient in the use of hand tools, power tools, and laboratory equipment used in the daily operations of the department.
  • Collect, prepare, process, and report material samples to be tested, including but not limited to production weld specimens, concrete specimens, and cement mortar lining.
  • Proctor qualification testing of welders and welding operators and complete test records and applicable logs.

Inspection

  • Proficient in the use of tools used in inspection processes and procedures, including but not limited to micrometers, calipers and related gauges, holiday testing equipment, and various thickness gauges.
  • Execute, evaluate, and report inspections of pieces, components, and parts produced by the applicable production departments, as well as by qualified vendors.
  • Perform in-process and final inspections, including but not limited to coating, concrete, dimensional, lining, loading, and welding-related inspection types and methodologies.

Examination

  • Conduct, evaluate, and report nondestructive examination/testing (NDE/NDT) of pieces, components, and parts produced by the applicable production departments, as well as by qualified vendors.
  • Interface with inspection/examination vendors and oversee their work.

Audits

  • Independently conduct internal audits as assigned by Quality Management.

Training

  • As assigned by Quality Management, conduct training of lesser-experienced personnel.

Documentation

  • Complete and maintain QA inspection and test reports and records.
  • Complete and maintain calibration, certification, and laboratory reports and records.
  • Review, status, and close out production records and quality control reports.
  • Prepare and complete nonconformance reports and nonconforming product logs.

Professional Development and Growth

  • Maintain on-the-job (OJT) training records.
  • Maintain current certifications and obtain new or higher-level certifications in applicable industry programs, including but not limited to ACI, AWS, NACE/SPCC, and NDE/NDT.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Quality supervision.
Desired Qualifications
  • Previous experience in a QA, QC, or production role in a similar or related industry.
  • Experience in one or more of the following technologies: concrete, civil, coatings, welding, or NDE/NDT.
  • Qualified by experience and training (classroom and/or OJT), previous certification, or current certification as a trainee or Level I/equivalent in one or more areas of technical expertise, including:
    • ACI Field Test Technician
    • NDE/NDT MT, PT, RT, UT, or VT (ASNT SNT-TC-1A or NAS 410)
    • NACE/SPCC Coating Inspector
    • API 510, 570, 577, or similar
  • Level II/equivalent qualification in one or more applicable areas of technical expertise preferred, including:
    • ACI Field Test Technician
    • AWS CWI (preferred) or CAWI
    • NDE/NDT MT, PT, RT, UT, or VT
    • NACE/SPCC Coating Inspector
    • API 510, 570, 577, or similar
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Trade school diploma or certificate in a related technology preferred.
  • STEM-related associate’s or bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish is a plus.
