Job summary

Thompson Pipe Group is seeking a Quality Control Technician in Alvarado, TX. The role supports the Quality Control department and Production Operations to ensure superior precast product quality.

Key duties include inspecting materials and finished products, recording conformance, maintaining cylinder records, and ensuring correct mix designs. Training for QC certifications is provided.

Qualifications

• Read blueprints and drawings to confirm product specifications.
• Demonstrate basic math skills for QC checks.
• Familiarity with precast concrete production tools and equipment.
• Experience with Excel is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Record product conformance to engineering and customer specs by inspecting rock, sand, concrete and precast products.
• Maintain cylinder break records per QC manual and ACPA requirements.
• Inspect raw materials and fresh concrete during batching and after testing.
• Ensure proper mix designs are programmed for each product type.
• Operate and maintain quality testing equipment per manuals.
• Maintain calibration records for testing equipment.
• Perform random inspections of wire cage fabrication.
• Perform pre-pour and post-pour inspections.
• Occasionally perform duties outside the job description to meet business needs.

Overview:

The Quality Technician will work within the Quality Control department and alongside Production Operations to ensure the highest level of quality for Thompson Pipe Group – Precast products. The position will collaborate with various departments within the facility to ensure knowledge of, and compliance with, project-specific quality assurance requirements.

Essential Functions:

• Record product conformance to engineering and customer specifications through inspection and testing of rock, sand, concrete, and precast concrete products.
• Record and maintain cylinder break records in accordance to quality control manual and ACPA requirements.
• Inspect raw materials and fresh concrete while batching and after testing to confirm concrete qualities meet the finished product specifications.
• Ensure proper mix designs are programmed and used for each product type.
• Operate and maintain all quality testing equipment according to manuals.
• Maintain documentation verifying that production and testing equipment has been properly and accurately calibrated in accordance with local standards.
• Perform random inspection and documentation of wire cage fabrication.
• Perform pre-pour and post-pour inspections.
• At times, expected to perform duties and tasks outside of job description to meet business needs.

Requirements:

• Precast concrete QC certification from ACI Strength Testing: Preferred
• ACPA Quality School or NPCA PQS I or PCI Level I : Preferred
• Precast Concrete Experience or related field: 2 Years Preferred
• Ability to Read Blueprints and Drawings for Products: Required
• Understanding basic math skills: Required
• Work-related experience and/or training in skilled trades: Preferred
• Familiarity using tools and equipment associated with precast concrete production: Required
• Excel Experience: Preferred

TPG will train and support in the development to become certified in industry required QC certifications

• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level in the work environment can be loud.

Physical Demands:

• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift or move products and supplies, up to 75 pounds.
