Job Description
You are the independent check. You write no production code, so you test what others built with fresh eyes. The customer inspects branching correctness and bilingual parity at 100 percent, and your test suites are the evidence it accepts. Full time, W-2, hybrid from Fairfax, Virginia, starting November 2026.
Why this job exists
SPN Solutions has won a new contract to build a public-facing health reporting application for a federal public health agency. Members of the public and clinicians will use it to submit safety reports in English and Spanish. It is built on cloud services the agency already runs, by a small team in which every person owns their part.
What you will do
- Build and run the branching test matrix: every submitter type against every report scenario against every conditional field, on every build.
- Build and run the English/Spanish parity suite: the same tasks in both languages, comparing completion, validation, error text, confirmation and reading order.
- Run manual assistive-technology testing on every changed screen with JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver, plus keyboard-only traversal.
- Prepare Accessibility Conformance Reports and remediation plans, and the Section 508 portion of compliance documentation.
- Run negative and role-based testing with at least one negative case per input and per branch.
- Classify defects accurately for the customer's severity determination. Never reclassify or hold back a defect to pass a threshold.
- Write the technical/administrator user guide, the operations and maintenance guide, architecture designs and process workflows.
- Edit every deliverable for accuracy, plain language and Section 508 conformance before release.
- Test the application's document-suggestion feature against a fixed test set and record its accuracy as a release gate.
What you need
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, technical communication or a related field and 5 years of software QA experience; 9 years of experience may substitute for the degree.
- DHS Section 508 Trusted Tester certification, or IAAP WAS or CPACC, held at hire or earned within 90 days.
- Hands-on manual testing with JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver against WCAG 2.1 AA.
- Test automation with Playwright, Cypress or Selenium in a CI pipeline.
- Technical writing samples: user guides, operations manuals or architecture documents.
- Experience in at least one of: healthcare informatics, public health surveillance systems, healthcare data management, or healthcare-related IT.
- Ability to obtain and keep a federal Public Trust determination.
What sets a candidate apart
- Accessibility Conformance Reports on the ITI VPAT template or an agency 508 checklist.
- Testing bilingual or multilingual applications.
- ISTQB certification.
- Federal acceptance testing against contract performance standards.
Pay is discussed with you directly when we speak. These are the benefits every full-time SPN employee receives.
- Medical and prescription coverage, dental and vision
- Short-term disability
- Life and accidental death insurance
- Competitive 401(k)
- 11 paid federal holidays
- Paid vacation
- Paid sick leave
- Parental leave
- Tuition and professional development assistance
Terms
- Full time, W-2, salaried (exempt), employed by SPN Solutions
- Target start: November 2026
- Hybrid: SPN's office in Fairfax, Virginia, and remote
- Core hours Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Eastern
- Occasional travel to Atlanta, Georgia, for onboarding and program meetings, reimbursed
