JetBrains is seeking a QA engineer to ensure Kotlin plugin quality across IntelliJ IDEA and related tooling. You will own exploratory testing, design maintainable automation, and expand test coverage for Kotlin tooling.
You will collaborate with developers to spot edge cases, report findings, and prevent regressions while maintaining high standards of code quality and reliability for millions of developers.
Do you look for hidden bugs, write clean test code, and love deep-diving into complex software behavior? Do you want to take ownership of quality for tools that millions of developers use every day? If you enjoy solving technical puzzles and expanding test automation as a peer to developers, this role is for you.
We create intelligent software development tools for developers and teams. More than 15 million users, over 300,000 companies, and 88 of the Fortune Global Top 100 rely on our products to solve real, complex problems. Our mission is simple: make development teams more productive and AI adoptable at scale.
The IntelliJ Kotlin Plugin team builds the core support for Kotlin within JetBrains IDEs, covering vital features like highlighting, refactorings, and advanced coding assistance. As the Kotlin ecosystem evolves, our tooling must remain robust, accurate, and performant. We are focusing on systematically expanding test coverage across both existing functionality and emerging areas. In this role, you will influence the stability of core developer workflows. This is not a role where you just run through a static checklist. You will have the autonomy to spot automation opportunities, design maintainable test scenarios, and shape how we test highly complex developer tools. You will collaborate directly with developers, investigating tricky edge cases and preventing regressions before they reach our community.
A strong sense of ownership and a desire to see complex problems through to resolution. Natural curiosity and a passion for exploring unfamiliar technical areas to find hidden issues. A genuine interest in programming languages, IDEs, and developer tools. A collaborative mindset, working closely with engineering peers to solve technical puzzles. A balanced approach to testing, valuing both deep exploratory manual testing and systematic automation. A habit of raising the bar, leaving codebases and systems cleaner than you found them.
Success means earning the trust of your team through sound technical decisions and thorough context‑driven testing. You will systematically reduce regressions by closing test gaps and identifying high‑value automation opportunities early. Ultimately, you succeed when you leave the Kotlin plugin more stable and reliable, helping millions of software developers build their projects without friction.
