Job summary

Burford Capital seeks a detail-oriented QA Engineer to support the quality of complex data-driven financial applications from its New York office. The role combines manual testing, test planning, and automation to ensure reliability, accuracy and production-readiness across web apps, APIs, data pipelines and integrations.

The candidate will collaborate with developers, quantitative professionals and business users, apply AI-assisted tooling, and help define acceptance criteria, testing

Qualifications

• Approximately five years of professional experience in software quality assurance.
• Proven ability to create test strategies and detailed test cases, manual and exploratory testing.
• Proficiency in at least one programming or scripting language, preferably Python or TypeScript/JavaScript.
• Hands-on experience with browser automation and API testing tools such as Playwright, Cypress, Selenium, PyTest, Postman or equivalents.
• SQL knowledge and testing data across relational or cloud data platforms.
• Experience integrating automated tests with CI/CD pipelines and Git-based workflows.
• Understanding of smoke, functional, regression, integration, end-to-end and performance testing approaches.
• Experience using AI-assisted development/testing tools to improve productivity.

Responsibilities

• Test planning and design: define acceptance criteria, test plans, test cases and coverage.
• Manual and exploratory testing across web apps and complex workflows.
• Automation development using Playwright, Cypress, Selenium, PyTest or equivalents.
• AI-assisted quality engineering: use AI tools to draft tests and generate scaffolding.
• API and data validation: test REST services, data pipelines, SQL validation.
• CI/CD integration: automate tests in Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions.
• Defect management: record defects, isolate root causes, verify fixes.
• Test environments and data: create repeatable test data and environment setup.
• Quality reporting: communicate results and risks concisely.
• Shift-left collaboration: engage early to design observable, testable apps.
