Job summary

Bodycote plc in Berlin, CT is seeking a Pyro Technician to perform essential pyrometry tasks under the direction of the Quality Manager, including surveys, calibration and instrumentation to meet customer specifications.

The role requires 40+ hours per week, Monday–Friday 7am–3:30pm with overtime as needed; this position is safety‑sensitive and ITAR compliant. Sign-on retention bonus of $1,500 is offered along with benefits and opportunities for growth.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum one year of experience in thermal processing or metallurgy.
• ITAR compliance requires U.S. citizenship or permanent residency.
• Strong verbal communication and attention to detail.
• Blueprint reading preferred.

Responsibilities

• Calibrate recall system for furnaces and equipment.
• Complete temperature uniformity survey documentation.
• Maintain inventory of calibration and inspection supplies.
• Perform system accuracy checks under supervision.
• Assist inspection with hardness and visual checks.
• Read and follow Quality Manual and procedures.
• Report irregularities to supervisor promptly.
• Promote safety and good housekeeping.
• Handle customer inventory safely and responsibly.
• Be punctual, follow directions and cooperate with colleagues.

Candidates must pass a pre‑employment drug screen and basic physical; have the ability to work full‑time, 40+ hours per week. The hours for this position are Monday‑Friday 7am-3:30pm. Overtime as needed

Position Summary:

Based in Berlin, CT, the Pyro Technician will perform essential job functions associated with pyrometry under the direction of the Quality Manager to meet customer specifications, including surveys, calibration, and instrumentation.

Essential Job Functions (Duties and Responsibilities):

The primary duties consist of, but are not limited to the following.

• Responsible for the calibration recall system for furnaces and other equipment.
• Completes temperature uniformity survey documentation and review.
• Responsibility for inventory of consumable maintenance supplies pertaining to calibration and inspection.
• Performs system accuracy checks under direction of Quality Manager.
• Assist the inspection department when necessary, checking hardness, visual inspection.
• Reads and understands Quality Manual and related procedures.
• Brings any irregularities, discrepancies or concerns to supervisor immediately.
• Practices and promotes safety and good housekeeping.
• Performs other tasks as assigned or dictated by position.
• This position is responsible for the care and treatment of our customer’s inventory and as such will perform duties in a safe and responsible manner to prevent customer loss or damage.
• Must have the ability to report for work on time, follow directions, interact effectively with co‑workers, understand and follow rules and procedures and accept constructive criticism.

• This position must satisfy ITAR compliance requirements; therefore, candidates must be U.S. Citizens or Permanent Resident Card Holders.
• Education – High school diploma or equivalent experience.
• Minimum one year of experience in thermal processing, metallurgy, customer specifications, etc.
• Blueprint reading preferred.
• Must possess strong verbal communication skills, professional and patient style in dealing with customers and staff.
• Must be precise and detail‑oriented.
• May be required to work overtime or any shift, including weekends
• Must have knowledge by experience or training of basic math.
• Must demonstrate the ability to read, write, and communicate in the English language.
• Knowledge and hands‑on experience of computer applications, including Microsoft Office and databases, is required.

Physical & Mental Demands:

The following physical and mental demands consist of, but are not limited to the following.

• Must be able to work in a sitting and/or standing for extended periods of time in an industrial environment.
• Manual dexterity to perform data entry functions.
• Ability to bend, pull, stoop and reach to perform functions.
• Ability to lift up to 35 lbs.
• May be exposed to heat, fumes, noise, and humidity, etc.
• Must have the cognitive and mental capacity to perform essential job functions.
• Must be able to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
• Visual acuity to read documents, computer screens, files, etc.
• Ability to hear in person and via phone.

Pay & Benefits Information

The hourly pay range for this position is $25/hr – $30/hr. Starting pay is determined based on experience, skills, and qualifications. This position is classified as non‑exempt and is eligible for overtime pay in accordance with state and federal law.

This role is not eligible for additional compensation, including shift differential.
