Job summary

Bodycote, based in Berlin, CT, is seeking a Pyro Technician to perform essential pyrometry tasks under the Quality Manager, including surveys, calibration, and instrumentation. The role offers a $1,500 sign-on retention bonus and pay range of $25‑$30 per hour, with standard Monday–Friday hours and overtime as needed.

Eligible candidates must meet ITAR requirements (U.S. citizens or permanent residents), have a high school diploma, and at least 1 year of experience in thermal processing.

Qualifications

• Must satisfy ITAR compliance; US Citizens or Permanent Residents only.
• Education – High school diploma or equivalent experience.
• Minimum one year of experience in thermal processing or metallurgy.
• Blueprint reading preferred.
• Strong verbal communication and customer-facing skills.
• Must be precise, detail-oriented, and able to report in English.
• Basic math skills and familiarity with computer applications.

Responsibilities

• Calibrate recall system for furnaces and equipment.
• Complete temperature uniformity survey documentation.
• Maintain inventory of calibration and inspection supplies.
• Perform system accuracy checks under supervision.
• Assist inspection with hardness and visual checks.
• Review Quality Manual and procedures; report irregularities.
• Promote safety and proper housekeeping; follow rules.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Candidates must pass a pre-employment drug screen and basic physical; have the ability to work full-time, 40+ hours per week. The hours for this position are Monday‑Friday 7am‑3:30pm. Overtime as needed

Position Summary

Based in Berlin, CT, the Pyro Technician will perform essential job functions associated with pyrometry under the direction of the Quality Manager to meet customer specifications, including surveys, calibration, and instrumentation.

Essential Job Functions (Duties and Responsibilities)

• Responsible for the calibration recall system for furnaces and other equipment.
• Completes temperature uniformity survey documentation and review.
• Responsibility for inventory of consumable maintenance supplies pertaining to calibration and inspection.
• Performs system accuracy checks under direction of Quality Manager.
• Assist the inspection department when necessary, checking hardness, visual inspection.
• Reads and understands Quality Manual and related procedures.
• Brings any irregularities, discrepancies or concerns to supervisor immediately.
• Practices and promotes safety and good housekeeping.
• Performs other tasks as assigned or dictated by position.
• This position is responsible for the care and treatment of our customer’s inventory and as such will perform duties in a safe and responsible manner to prevent customer loss or damage.
• Must have the ability to report for work on time, follow directions, interact effectively with co‑workers, understand and follow rules and procedures and accept constructive criticism.

• This position must satisfy ITAR compliance requirements; therefore, candidates must be U.S. Citizens or Permanent Resident Card Holders.
• Education – High school diploma or equivalent experience.
• Minimum one year of experience in thermal processing, metallurgy, customer specifications, etc.
• Blueprint reading preferred.
• Must possess strong verbal communication skills, professional and patient style in dealing with customers and staff.
• Must be precise and detail-oriented.
• May be required to work overtime or any shift, including weekends
• Must have knowledge by experience or training of basic math.
• Must demonstrate the ability to read, write, and communicate in the English language.
• Knowledge and hands‑on experience of computer applications, including Microsoft Office and databases, is required.

Physical & Mental Demands

• Must be able to work in a sitting and/or standing for extended periods of time in an industrial environment.
• Manual dexterity to perform data entry functions.
• Ability to bend, pull, stoop and reach to perform functions.
• Ability to lift up to 35 lbs.
• May be exposed to heat, fumes, noise, and humidity, etc.
• Must have the cognitive and mental capacity to perform essential job functions.
• Must be able to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
• Visual acuity to read documents, computer screens, files, etc.
• Ability to hear in person and via phone.

Pay & Benefits Information

The hourly pay range for this position is $25/hr – $30/hr. Starting pay is determined based on experience, skills, and qualifications. This position is classified as non‑exempt and is eligible for overtime pay in accordance with state and federal law.

This role is not eligible for additional compensation, including shift differential.
