The City of Medford is hiring a PW5.5 MEO II & Laborer for the DPW - Cemetery. This full-time role covers manual labor, cemetery maintenance, and operation of multiple heavy equipment pieces.

Work schedule is Monday to Friday, 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM, with a focus on safety and efficiency in varying weather conditions. Qualifications include a High School diploma or GED, at least one year of truck driving experience, and a valid Class B CDL.

• Excavate and backfill for street and drain projects and support related construction work.
• Perform heavy lifting and manual tasks in all weather conditions; respond to day crew needs.

Position: PW5.5 MEO II & Laborer

Department: DPW - Cemetery

Hours of Work: Full-time (40 hours/weekly), Monday to Friday: 7:00 AM – 4:00 PM.

Salary: Weekly: $1,197.12 - $1,252.52 (Union / PW5.5)

Basic Function: Employees are responsible for performing manual labor such as pick up and shovel work required in digging, filling trenches, grading, loaming, sweeping streets, assisting in repairing structures and equipment, assisting in constructing and repairing streets, sidewalks, curbing, culverts, and manholes.

Responsibilities:

• The employee operates a variety of special motor equipment and other equipment such as one- and five-ton dump trucks, sweepers, sewer trucks, compressors, pavement breakers, a pick-up truck with a plow, a dump truck, and similar machinery.
• Digging graves, setting up lowering devices, filling in graves, trimming and edging, trimming shrubbery, grading lots, raking, watering, and caring for flower beds, straightening tipped stones, filling in sunken graves.
• Painting fences and settees; cutting down trees and sawing them into pieces; shoveling snow, operating a truck in the transportation of employees, equipment, and materials; to load and unload trucks; to plow snow and sand streets, sidewalks and public parking areas, haul snow from streets to put sand on hills in the winter; grease, oil and keep equipment clean and in good running order.
• Excavate, backfill, and perform associated work with street and drain work projects.
• Cutting and mowing grass with hand or power mower and associated ground breakers, sewer stoppage, fallen wires and trees, or other complaints, and to service such emergency calls when possible or to notify the necessary members of the day crew or department as required.
• Perform related work as required. Heavy lifting is required.

Education & Experience:

• High School or GED.
• One (1) year of experience as a truck driver.

License or Certification:

• Valid Class B CDL Driver's License.

Physical Requirement: Essential functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for sitting, standing, and walking for extended periods of time; moderate to heavy lifting and carrying which includes the ability to lift up to fifty pounds; pulling, reaching, bending, climbing, and kneeling; use of fingers, both hands and legs required; must be able to distinguish colors and operate assigned vehicles.

Work Environment: Indoor and outdoor environments with wide range of weather conditions, exposure to vibrations and noise; work on slippery or uneven surfaces, work with electrical energy; work with and around heavy machinery; work in or near vehicle traffic; exposure to dust and fumes from motorized equipment; possible exposure to toxic chemicals; irregular working hours for inclement weather situations and other circumstances. Most work independently and/or in groups.
