Job Description

The Purchasing Quality Assurance Engineer is responsible for ensuring the quality of purchased components used at the Norman manufacturing facility. This position serves as the primary quality interface between the plant, Procurement and suppliers for serial production issues.

The role focuses on supplier problem-solving, containment coordination, root cause analysis, corrective action implementation and continuous improvement of supplier performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead supplier quality problem-solving activities for purchased components impacting production, incoming inspection or field performance.
  • Initiate and manage supplier corrective action requests, including 8D reports, root cause analysis and corrective action verification.
  • Coordinate immediate containment activities at the supplier, plant, warehouse and third-party sorting locations when required.
  • Conduct technical discussions with suppliers regarding nonconforming components, manufacturing processes and quality risks.
  • Support the plant Quality Management and production teams with component failure analysis, rejection evaluations and supplier-related investigations.
  • Ensure clear failure descriptions, technical evidence and relevant data are communicated to suppliers and Purchasing Quality Engineering.
  • Monitor supplier quality performance using KPIs such as IPPM, defect trends, complaint status, response time and corrective action effectiveness.
  • Verify the implementation and long-term effectiveness of supplier corrective actions.
  • Coordinate the return, disposition, rework or scrap of nonconforming supplier material.
  • Support quality risk assessments, deviation requests and temporary concessions for purchased components.
  • Participate in supplier visits, process reviews, problem-solving workshops and supplier improvement activities when necessary.
  • Support alignment of inspection and measurement methods between Bosch and suppliers, including gauges, specifications and acceptance criteria.
  • Collect internal and external failure costs and support supplier reimbursement and cost recovery activities.
  • Work closely with Procurement, Plant Quality, Manufacturing, Engineering, Logistics and suppliers to ensure timely resolution of quality issues.
  • Prepare structured reports, management presentations and data analyses using tools such as PowerPoint, Excel, Power BI and AI-supported applications.
  • Document lessons learned and share relevant findings with Purchasing Quality Engineering to prevent similar issues in new products and projects.
  • Promote a proactive quality culture and support continuous improvement of supplier and plant quality processes.

This position is ideal for a hands-on quality engineer who can combine technical problem-solving with strong supplier management skills. The successful candidate will be expected to take ownership of supplier-related quality issues, create transparency for the plant and drive corrective actions through sustainable closure.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or a related technical field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in supplier quality, manufacturing quality, incoming quality, production quality or a related engineering function.
  • Practical experience with structured problem-solving methods such as 8D, 5 Whys, Ishikawa diagrams and root cause analysis.
  • Experience managing supplier corrective actions and verifying the effectiveness of implemented actions.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, tolerances and technical requirements.
  • Understanding of manufacturing processes, measurement methods and quality inspection techniques.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to evaluate defect data, supplier performance and manufacturing risks.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate technical topics with suppliers and internal stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage multiple quality issues and prioritize activities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with cross-functional and international teams.
  • Willingness to occasionally travel to supplier locations and other Bosch facilities as business needs require.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in HVAC, automotive, appliance, electrical equipment or other manufacturing environments.
  • Knowledge of APQP, PPAP, FAI, Control Plans, PFMEA, MSA and SPC.
  • Experience with supplier audits or manufacturing process assessments.
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001, IATF 16949 or VDA 6.3 requirements.
  • Experience using SAP, Power BI or supplier quality management systems.
  • Green Belt, Six Sigma, Quality Engineering or Process Auditor certification.
  • Experience coordinating third-party containment, sorting or rework activities.
  • Experience with supplier chargebacks, warranty recovery or quality cost reimbursement processes.
