Responsibilities
The IT Purchasing Intern will support day-to-day procurement and strategic sourcing activities across the IT purchasing category. This internship provides hands‑on experience with technology procurement, supplier engagement, contract and pricing analysis, requests for proposals, and global category strategy.
The intern will work with internal stakeholders, external suppliers, and international Purchasing teammates while applying classroom knowledge to real‑world business needs. The ideal candidate is organized, analytical, detail‑oriented, eager to learn, and comfortable communicating with a variety of stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Support day-to-day activities within the IT purchasing category, including managing intake requests, engaging stakeholders, and conducting sourcing and price analyses.
- Assist with the review and comparison of technology contracts, software agreements, and licensing terms.
- Conduct contract, licensing, and cost analyses to identify similarities, differences, and potential areas of overlap.
- Support purchasing activities involving software, hardware, and technology services.
- Assist with developing and facilitating Requests for Proposals, including:
- Drafting RFP documents
- Completing nondisclosure agreements
- Coordinating with bidders
- Supporting proposal evaluations
- Assisting with supplier selection and award negotiations
- Collect and analyze data related to IT market trends, potential suppliers, and strategic sourcing opportunities.
- Collaborate with international Purchasing teammates to help develop a global IT category strategy.
- Coordinate with internal stakeholders to gather requirements, communicate updates, and support procurement activities.
- Communicate professionally with suppliers and participate in vendor discussions.
- Gain exposure to supplier negotiations, vendor management, and relationship‑building practices.
- Use Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications to organize, analyze, and present information.
- Explore practical uses of artificial intelligence and emerging technologies in purchasing and procurement.
- Support additional projects aligned with the Purchasing team’s priorities.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Currently pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in supply chain management, procurement, business administration, finance, information technology, or a related field.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Microsoft Excel.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem‑solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with team members, internal stakeholders, and external suppliers.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to work with contracts, pricing information, and other detailed documentation.
- Self‑motivated, dependable, and able to manage assignments with appropriate guidance.
- Demonstrated interest in IT procurement, strategic sourcing, contracts, software licensing, or cost analysis.
- Curiosity, initiative, and a strong willingness to learn.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous coursework or experience related to procurement, purchasing, supply chain, finance, contracts, or information technology.
- Familiarity with RFPs or other competitive sourcing processes.
- Exposure to stakeholder engagement, vendor management, contract review, or market research.
- Familiarity with negotiation concepts.
- Interest in artificial intelligence and its potential business applications.
- Comfort participating in supplier conversations and learning negotiation practices.
- Interest in working with international colleagues and contributing to global initiatives.
