Job summary

Smithfield Foods, Inc. is seeking a detail-oriented Purchasing Clerk to manage inventory reporting, process plant purchase orders, and liaise with vendors to ensure timely deliveries.

The successful candidate will handle requisitions, maintain tracking systems, and support the purchasing department, contributing to efficient supply chain operations.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • APICS Certification preferred.
  • Excellent written communications skills.
  • Knowledge of UNIX/SAP and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Responsibilities

  • Take charge of inventory reports to ensure supplies are in stock.
  • Open and enter Plant Purchase Orders to support receiving and billing.
  • Coordinate with vendors to resolve order issues and track deliveries.
  • Tackle special projects to improve processes and drive results.

The position summary states the general nature and purpose of the job. Overall accountabilities are defined in this section. In this vital role, you'll manage the clerical and administrative heartbeat of the purchasing department, including support for the maintenance team. You'll be the go-to person for processing requisitions, creating and distributing purchase orders, and maintaining a detailed tracking system that keeps everything organized and on schedule. Plus, you'll build strong relationships with vendors by managing communications and ensuring orders move seamlessly from request to delivery. WHAT YOU’LL DO
  • Take charge of inventory control by running accurate reports and ensuring essential paper supplies are always in stock - keeping the operation smooth and uninterrupted.
  • Manage Plant Purchase Orders by opening and entering them promptly to support the receiving and billing teams, ensuring timely and accurate processing.
  • Partner with vendors to resolve order issues, whether it's fixing pricing errors, verifying invoices, tracking deliveries, or securing proof of delivery - your follow-up keeps everything on track.
  • Dive into new and special projects assigned by your manager, bringing your problem-solving skills and initiative to help improve processes and drive results.

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED), required.
  • APICS Certification is preferred.
  • Excellent written communications skills.
  • Knowledge of UNIX application (SAP), the Internet and Microsoft Office software, e.g. Word, Excel and Power Point.
  • Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.
OTHER SKILLS THAT MAKE YOU STAND OUT
  • Experience in purchasing/parts room inventory/vendor relations, preferred.
  • Bi-lingual preferred.
  • Ability to work well with others in fast paced, dynamic environment.
  • Ability to be respectful, approachable and team oriented while building strong working relationships and a positive work environment.
