Job summary

Smithfield Foods in Sioux Falls, SD is seeking a Warehouse Supervisor to lead a team in receiving, transfers, picking/packing, and shipping. You will ensure safety, quality, and GMP standards while driving productivity and process improvements.

The role requires a Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain or related field and 2+ years of relevant experience, plus willingness to work nights/weekends and occasional travel. Relocation support is available for the right candidate.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience leading staff or managing a process or project.
  • Knowledge of OSHA Standards, USDA, HACCP and EPA Regulations.
  • Manufacturing knowledge including yields, plant efficiencies, and procedures.
  • Proficiency with SAP and inventory/manufacturing software.
  • Willingness to work nights/weekends and travel up to 5%.

As a Warehouse Supervisor, you’ll manage critical operations including receiving, transfers, picking/packing, and shipping. WHAT YOU’LL DO:
  • Safety & Compliance - You’ll ensure full compliance with all safety legislation and approved codes of practice, creating a secure environment for your team and operations.
  • Warehouse Operations - Monitor and manage all warehouse activities—from receiving and storing goods to shipping—making sure everything runs on time with minimal errors. You’ll guarantee that assembled goods are packed and labeled correctly, loading lists are accurate, and all paperwork is complete.
  • Team Leadership & Development - Lead and organize your workforce, identifying training needs through regular performance reviews. You’ll inspire your team to achieve peak performance while maintaining strong employee relations.
  • Performance & Productivity - Review and refine working practices to maximize efficiency and productivity. You’ll ensure all procedures align with company standards and drive continuous improvement across operations.
  • Reporting & Documentation - Compile and maintain essential records, reports, and logs to keep operations transparent and compliant. Your attention to detail ensures accuracy and accountability at every step.
WHAT WE’RE SEEKING:
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university in Supply Chain or a related field and 2+ years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience, required.
  • Experience acting as a lead by providing training, coaching or mentoring to less experienced staff or through managing a process or project.
  • Knowledge of OSHA Standards, USDA, HACCP and EPA Regulations.
  • Manufacturing knowledge and understanding of yields, plant efficiencies, and operations procedures.
  • Knowledge of SAP, Manufacturing software, Inventory software, Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Has the flexibility to work nights and weekends when needed to make a broader impact.
  • May be required to travel up to 5% of the time.

  • Ability to work well with others in fast paced, dynamic environment.
  • Ability to be respectful, approachable and team oriented while building strong working relationships and a positive work environment.
  • Bilingual a plus.
  • Good Oral and written communication skills
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provides leadership and guidance to employees in the Warehouse.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
  • Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and assisting in providing appropriate resolutions.

Frequently required to move and/or lift 50 pounds and occasionally required to move and/or lift more than 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision and ability to adjust focus. Frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear.
