Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Manage purchasing activities for materials, components, equipment, and services.
  • Evaluate supplier quotations, negotiate pricing and terms, and manage purchase orders.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to confirm purchasing requirements and approvals.
  • Resolve purchasing discrepancies and expedite orders to support business needs.
  • Oversee material planning, inventory management, and purchasing schedules.
  • Identify long-lead, single-source, and high-risk materials and develop strategies to minimize supply chain disruptions.
  • Maintain inventory accuracy, coordinate cycle counts, and resolve discrepancies.
  • Balance material availability, cost efficiency, and working capital objectives.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers.
  • Establish expectations for pricing, lead times, quality, delivery, and responsiveness.
  • Evaluate supplier performance and resolve quality or delivery concerns.
  • Identify opportunities for cost savings and continuous improvement.
  • Oversee inbound receiving and outbound shipping operations.
  • Ensure accuracy of received materials, purchase orders, and supporting documentation.
  • Coordinate packaging, carrier selection, shipment tracking, and delivery schedules.
  • Maintain accurate shipping and receiving records while following applicable handling requirements.
  • Partner with Engineering, Contracts, Quality, Program Management, and Finance to support purchasing and logistics priorities.
  • Coordinate purchasing activities with project requirements and contractual commitments.
  • Resolve supplier quality issues, purchasing discrepancies, and logistical challenges.
  • Provide visibility into inventory availability, order status, delivery timelines, and supply chain risks.
  • Lead and develop purchasing, inventory, shipping, and receiving personnel.
  • Establish clear processes, accountability, and performance expectations.
  • Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency, accuracy, and team effectiveness.

Purchasing and Logistics Manager

Compensation: $100,000-$130,000 annually

Employment Type: Full-Time, Exempt

Reports To: Chief Operating Officer (COO)

About the Opportunity

Alta HR is working on behalf of another organization seeking an experienced Purchasing and Logistics Manager to lead purchasing, supplier management, inventory control, and logistics operations for a growing organization.

This position plays a critical role in ensuring materials, components, equipment, and services are sourced efficiently, inventory is accurately maintained, and deliveries are completed on time.

The ideal candidate is a proactive problem-solver who can balance cost, quality, and delivery requirements while strengthening supplier relationships, improving processes, and collaborating across multiple departments.

What You'll Do

Purchasing and Procurement

  • Manage purchasing activities for materials, components, equipment, and services.
  • Evaluate supplier quotations, negotiate pricing and terms, and manage purchase orders.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to confirm purchasing requirements and approvals.
  • Resolve purchasing discrepancies and expedite orders to support business needs.

Supply Chain and Inventory Management

  • Oversee material planning, inventory management, and purchasing schedules.
  • Identify long-lead, single-source, and high-risk materials and develop strategies to minimize supply chain disruptions.
  • Maintain inventory accuracy, coordinate cycle counts, and resolve discrepancies.

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications

  • At least 4 years of experience in purchasing, procurement, supply chain, shipping, receiving, or logistics.
  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Operations, Engineering, Business, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Demonstrated experience managing purchasing activities and supplier relationships.
  • Strong knowledge of inventory management, material planning, and logistics operations.
  • Experience using ERP or MRP systems.
  • Proven ability to negotiate supplier pricing and terms, evaluate performance, and solve complex purchasing challenges.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Must hold or be eligible to obtain a Department of Defense Secret security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience managing purchasing and logistics in a low-volume, high-mix environment.
  • Background in regulated or quality-controlled industries.
  • Experience implementing improvements across purchasing, inventory, shipping, and receiving processes.
  • Knowledge of Lean methodologies, continuous improvement, or process optimization.
  • Previous leadership or people management experience.
Compensation

The annual salary range for this position is $100,000-$130,000, depending on qualifications, skills, and relevant experience.

Work Environment

This position operates across office, inventory storage, and shipping and receiving environments. Responsibilities involve a combination of computer-based work and hands-on coordination of materials, inventory, and shipments.
