Job summary

The Utah State Board of Education (USBE) is seeking a Purchasing Agent II in Salt Lake City to manage procurement of goods and services with a focus on solicitations and contract management. The role emphasizes compliance and customer service in a hybrid work setting.

You will support vendor setup, maintain filing systems, and assist with financial processes while collaborating with a team to ensure efficient purchasing operations.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts various types of solicitations and other purchasing processes,including, but not limited to, RFPs, RFSQs, bids, sole sources, small purchases,etc.
  • Writes, reviews, and/or negotiates contracts and/or agreements.
  • Assists with drafting training materials, policies and procedures, desk manuals, standard operating procedures, etc. Assists with maintaining an internal contract repository.
  • Maintains or creates files or record-keeping systems including sorting, labeling,filing, and retrieving documents as requested.
  • Maintains tracking sheets for agency procurements.
  • Enters information into the State’s finance system to create vendor numbers,update vendor information, create purchase orders, enter contracts, etc.
  • Assists other purchasing staff with coordinating purchases for USBE, receiving purchasing requisitions, and reviewing documents for completeness.
  • Provides technical assistance on issues relating to the State’s finance system.
  • Analyzes, summarizes and/or reviews various purchasing and financial data.
  • Reports findings, interprets results and/or makes recommendations.Ensures compliance with applicable federal and/or state laws, regulations, and/oragency rules, standards, and guidelines, etc.
  • Assists with training USBE staff regarding purchasing and certain financial procedures.
  • Monitors frequency of purchases and recommends possible options to increaseeffectiveness of purchasing power.
  • Provides administrative support to purchasing staff and management.
  • Completes other duties as assigned.

Salary – $24.53 - $35.95 Hourly Wage

  • Has a CPPB, NIGP-CPP, CPPO or willing to obtain certification within 3 years.
