Job summary

Healthy Food Ingredients LLC in Fargo, ND, seeks a results-driven procurement specialist to source specialty non-GMO and organic crops from North American growers under the supervision of the Procurement Manager.

You will build relationships, negotiate contracts, travel to farms and trade shows, monitor market trends, and coordinate with Logistics, Quality, Sales and Accounting to ensure timely pricing and inventory control.

Qualifications

• Must be well organized with attention to detail and strong written/verbal communication.
• Experience in procuring specialty crops and grain is required.
• Willingness to travel within North America is expected.
• Ability to make sound decisions and work independently as a self-starter.

Responsibilities

• Develop relationships with growers/vendors of assigned products.
• Understand crop specifics: growing conditions, planting dates, harvest dates, costs, market trends.
• Face-to-face and farm visits with contract growers/vendors.
• Attend domestic trade shows.
• Provide timely pricing to sales personnel of assigned portfolio.
• Provide written reports to supervisor and other personnel as requested.
• Work with Logistics, Facilities, Accounting, Sales, and Quality teams.
• Monthly inventory review.
• Forward contracting and spot purchasing.
• Contract negotiation and management.
• Collaborate with other purchasing and crop production team members as needed.
• Maintain positions for assigned products.
• Maintain other records as needed.

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

This individual will work under the supervision of the Procurement Manager. They will be responsible for procuring identified specialty non-GMO and organic crops from growers and vendors to meet our customers’ needs.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

• Developing relationships with growers/vendors of assigned products
• Understanding the complexity of each crop assigned (i.e., growing conditions, planting dates, harvest dates, cost of the product, market analysis and trend of each product, etc.)
• Face-to-face and farm visitation with contract growers/vendors
• Attending domestic trade shows
• Providing timely pricing to sales personnel of assigned portfolio
• Providing written reports to the supervisor and other HFI personnel as requested
• Working across other internal departments including Logistics, HFI Facilities, Accounting, Sales, and Quality
• Monthly inventory review
• Forward contracting and spot purchasing
• Contract negotiation and management
• Working with other purchasing and crop production team members’ portfolios when necessary or as a back-up
• Maintain positions for assigned products.
• Maintain other records as needed
