SMS Mill Services, LLC is seeking a Purchasing Agent to join our Portage, Indiana operations. This role focuses on end-to-end purchasing for production support, collaborating with internal stakeholders and suppliers to ensure cost efficiency and uninterrupted operations.

The successful candidate will report to the Senior Strategic Sourcing Manager and handle supplier relations, PO issuance, and process optimization within a fast-paced industrial setting.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in procurement, contract management, or vendor management in a heavy industrial environment.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Support day-to-day procurement for operations.
• Work with the business to address any purchasing related issues.
• Manage supplier relationships.
• Prepare and issue Capital Purchase Orders.
• Drive compliance to purchasing agreements.
• Pursue continuous improvement opportunities with existing suppliers.
• Coordinate freight movement, customs documents and related logistics activities.
• Ensure company systems (Coupa & JDE) process and performance methods are being used effectively.
• Assist with some Accounts Payable related issues.
• Identify savings and broader value opportunities within supplier relationships and monitor assessment activities as part of the sourcing lifecycle.
• Assist manager with data collection when required.
