Job summary

The Buyer I position is responsible for sourcing, estimating and purchasing from our vendor base in Pittsburgh, PA. You will negotiate pricing and contracts to assure competitive pricing and delivery times while supporting project teams.

Responsibilities include reviewing customer service and project management requirements, issuing POs, evaluating quotes, monitoring supplier on-time delivery, and solving quality issues with vendors. Collaboration with engineering and sales is essential.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in purchasing, supply chain management or business administration.
  • One plus year of related experience (preferably in metals industry).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work independently and in a group.
  • Hands-on problem solver with ability to interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.
  • Proven track record negotiating with vendors and understanding of quality department functions.
  • Result oriented with strong analytical and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

  • Review requirements from customer service, project management, and purchasing to ensure sourcing support and place purchase orders promptly.
  • Request and evaluate vendor quotes to determine best sourcing options.
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities within purchasing responsibilities.
  • Review customer requirements (CAD drawings) to provide best sourcing option in terms of quality, price and delivery.
  • Monitor and collaborate with vendors to improve on-time delivery performance.
  • Resolve warranty claims with vendors and execute sourcing activities per policy.
  • Facilitate resolution of quality issues with vendors as they arise.
  • Read, understand and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.
  • Collaborate with internal engineering groups to answer drawing questions from vendors.
  • Work closely with Technical Sales Support, Quality, Sales, project managers, and other departments.

  • Review the requirements received from customer service, project management, and purchasing to ensure the adequate sourcing support for upcoming projects and place purchase orders in a timely manner

  • Conduct vendor site visits from the commercial side as needed

What you’ll need

  • Bachelor's degree in purchasing, supply chain management, or business administration
  • One plus year of related experience (preferably in the metals industry) is preferred
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work both independently and within a group
  • You are a \"hands-on\" person with an imaginative and resourceful approach to problem solving
  • Understanding and interpreting engineering drawings and technical specifications a plus
  • Proven track record working and negotiating with various vendors
  • Understanding of quality department functions
  • Result oriented with excellent analytical and organization skills
  • Clear communication skills within all levels of a company
  • Understanding of supply chain processes and solid problem solving ability
  • Proficiency of standard MS Office applications (Excel, Outlook, Word, Power Point etc.)
