Job summary

UnitedMechanical is seeking a Purchasing Agent to source, price, and procure construction materials for Northern California projects. The role requires strong product knowledge, established vendor relationships, and the ability to balance cost, quality, and delivery schedules.

The position collaborates with project managers, field operations, and warehouse teams to ensure timely, budget-conscious material availability. Proficiency in purchasing systems and ERP software is preferred.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years of experience in purchasing, procurement, or supply chain within the mechanical construction industry.
• Strong knowledge of construction materials including pipe, valve, and fitting (PVF) products, specifications, and manufacturers.
• Experience working with mechanical contractors, fabricators, or distributors preferred.

Responsibilities

• Review project plans and specifications to determine material requirements.
• Source, quote, and purchase construction and PVF materials, including heavy machinery rentals.
• Negotiate pricing, payment terms, and freight with vendors per guidelines and standards.
• Develop and maintain supplier relationships to ensure competitive pricing and on-time delivery.
• Process and manage all purchases and requests, including backorders, per policies and budgets.

ThePurchasingAgentisresponsibleforsourcing,pricing,andprocuringconstructionmaterialstosupportUnitedMechanical'sconstructionprojectsacrossNorthernCalifornia.Thisrolerequiresstrongproductknowledge,establishedvendorrelationships,andtheabilitytobalancecost,quality,anddeliveryschedules.ThePurchasingAgentworkscloselywithprojectmanagers,fieldoperations,andthewarehouseteamtoensurematerialsareavailableontimeandwithinbudget.

Duties/Responsibilities

• Reviewprojectplansandspecificationstodeterminematerialrequirements.
• Source,quote,andpurchaseallconstructionandPVFmaterialsincludingcarbonsteel,stainlesssteel,copper,andplasticpipe,valves,andfittings,sheetmetal,usingestablishedlistofvendors.Includessourcingheavymachineryrentals.
• Negotiatepricing,paymentterms,andfreightwithvendorsanddistributorspercompanyguidelinesandindustrystandardsunderthesupervisionandapprovalofmanagement.
• Developandmaintainstrongsupplierrelationshipstoensurecompetitivepricing,availability,andon-timedelivery.
• Process,monitor,andmanageallpurchasesandrequests,includingbackorders,inaccordancewithcompanypoliciesandprojectbudgets,andensureaccurateandtimelydeliveryofmaterials.
• Communicatewithvendors,projectmanagers,warehouse,andfieldsupervisorswithanyupdatesorissueswithmaterials.
• Fieldandexecuterequestforquotes"RFQ"whilemaintainingdataaccuracyandcompliance. Mayinclude non-disclosurerequirements.
• Assistwithreconciliatingallorderspurchasedtoensureallinvoicesareapproved.
• SupportinventorymanagementandcosttrackingeffortsincoordinationwithAccountingandFacilities.

Qualifications

• Strongknowledgeofconstructionmaterialsincludingpipe,valve,andfitting(PVF)products,specifications,andmanufacturers.

• Strongnegotiation,communication,andorganizationalskills.
• Proficientinpurchasingsystems,Excel,andERPsoftware(Sage300orsimilarpreferred).
• Detail-oriented,deadline-driven,andcapableofmanagingmultipleactiveorders.
• PriorexperiencewithRFQs,purchaseorders,ormaterialtracking.
• Experiencesupportingmechanicalcontractors,fabricators,distributors,orconstructionfieldoperations.
