Position Summary: Responsible for acquiring, purchasing, and negotiating materials, equipment, and supplies.
Reports to: Purchasing Manager

Accountabilities: Accountable for understanding and following all SOPs and WIs related to job duties while supporting 6S and Lean Manufacturing concepts. Ensure all purchases are made in a timely manner at the best value to Major Tool. Utilize analytical skills to optimize inventory levels and ensure the timely availability of materials required for operations.
Create internal work orders and analyze MRP information to initiate raw material purchases.
Communicate regularly with vendors to resolve delivery issues and provide forecasts.
Keep track of critical part numbers and items impacting production to support production cadence.
Duties
- Generate purchase orders and other material requirements as needed.
- Verify nomenclature and specifications of purchase requests.
- Search inventory records or warehouse to determine if material on hand is sufficient.
- Solicit price and lead time information from the supply base. Evaluate vendor quotes and services for compatibility with company objectives.
- Assist in material planning, generate purchase orders, and follow up on deliveries.
- Input all changes into the purchasing system, including purchase orders, price changes, and updates.
- Research invoice discrepancies and approve invoices for payment as required by Accounts Payable.
- Expedite orders to ensure on-time delivery per schedules.
- Arrange transportation with MTM trucks and outside services as needed.
- Negotiate pricing, delivery, and terms with suppliers.
- Process documentation to set up new vendors.
- Perform on-site audits of suppliers as required, maintaining ISO auditor status.
- Investigate and follow up on vendor non-conformances.
- Provide costing support during estimating processes for Engineering and Sales.
- Act as backup for Procurement Specialist and Subcontract Administrator as needed.
- Set up internal work orders and initiate raw material purchases.
- Attend weekly production/purchasing meetings.
- Maintain MRP data on lead times, costs, and revisions for parts.
- Analyze data to identify trends and recommend supply chain improvements.
- Prepare and present inventory performance and material availability reports.
Job Qualification Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or related field.
- Basic blueprint reading skills.
- Certification in APICS (CPIM or CSCP) or similar.
- Minimum 3 years experience in procurement, materials planning, or inventory management in manufacturing.
- Detail-oriented with strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and understanding of ERP/MRP systems.
- Ability to analyze data and report accurately.
- Experience working with cross-functional teams.
- Visual Manufacturing experience is a plus but not required.
Physical Demands
- Stand, walk, push, pull, reach overhead, and bend.
- Lift up to 10 pounds occasionally.
Certification: Must have a valid driver’s license.
Visual acuity required for reading screens and documents.
Hearing ability for communication with internal and external contacts.
Working conditions are primarily office-based, with rare exposure to shop floor hazards, noise, fumes, dust, and physical hazards.
Some travel may be required. Attendance is essential.
