Job summary

MANN+HUMMEL in Wilson, NC is seeking a Purchaser to manage direct and indirect material purchasing, maintain optimal inventory levels, and foster strong supplier relationships. The role collaborates with production planning, engineering, quality, and warehouse teams to ensure material availability and timely deliveries.

The ideal candidate will have experience in replenishment buying, ERP systems (preferably SAP), and strong analytical and communication skills within a manufacturing setting.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business or a related field preferred; directly relevant experience may be considered in place of a degree.
  • Minimum of two years of detailed experience in replenishment buying, requisition buying, purchasing, or procurement within a manufacturing environment; three to five years preferred.
  • Strong understanding of production, logistics, and supply chain management principles.
  • Prior experience in manufacturing is required.
  • Prior experience in purchasing preferred.
  • Analytical skills, including the ability to calculate and convert units of measure, build truckloads, and perform related calculations.
  • Proficient in inventory-management techniques used to optimize stock levels.
  • Strong team player.
  • Ability to take initiative, think proactively, and maintain a positive, results-oriented approach.
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office and Excel.
  • Ability to analyze pricing trends and make informed purchasing decisions.
  • Experience with ERP systems preferred; SAP experience strongly preferred.
  • Strong communication skills for effective collaboration with suppliers and internal teams.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Manage inventory levels to prevent shortages or excess/obsolete stock.
  • Maintain accurate MRO inventory counts
  • Communicate with suppliers to confirm order status, expedite deliveries, and resolve supply issues.
  • Execute procurement strategies that improve delivery performance and inventory management.
  • Investigate and resolve invoice discrepancies, receiving issues, and supplier-related concerns.
  • Collaborate with production planning, engineering, quality, and warehouse teams to ensure material availability.
  • Analyze demand forecasts and inventory reports to identify purchasing requirements.
  • Maintain accurate records of purchases, pricing, and supplier information.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to forecast demand and align purchasing strategies.
  • Support inventory accuracy and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Develop and maintain strong supplier relationships.

Role Summary

The Purchaser plays a critical role in managing the purchase of materials, supplies, and equipment, working with vendors to ensure raw material is onsite for efficient production to meet customer needs. This position is responsible for ensuring that all local purchasing activities align with company goals and objectives while maintaining optimal inventory levels and supplier relationships. The ideal candidate will possess strong skills in supply chain management, logistics, and contribute to the overall efficiency and effectiveness of our operations.

Main Tasks
