Job summary

Wiegel in Wood Dale, IL seeks a Setup Operator to install fixtures and set progressive tooling in punch presses. You will support operators, run first pieces, and troubleshoot tooling and die protection. The role requires sharp attention to detail, blueprints reading, and adherence to safety protocols.

You will perform routine maintenance, maintain a clean workspace, and communicate issues to the supervisor. Non-exempt, on-site, with opportunity to contribute to production efficiency.

Qualifications

• Ability to read and understand blueprints.
• Basic shop math understanding is required.
• Technical knowledge of assigned machines.
• Distinguish a variety of raw materials used in production.
• OSHA required training including Lock-out/Tag-out, Hazard Communication, PPE and Evacuation.
• Certified Forklift Driver or equivalent experience.

Responsibilities

• Review work instructions and ensure proper setup.
• Check and provide all process components including materials, lubricants, and packaging.
• Identify material thickness and gauge for correct tooling.
• Set up tooling and fixtures into machines and run first piece.
• Operate machines to run production as required.
• Visually inspect parts for burrs, defects, and correct labeling.
• Maintain clean, organized work area and follow safety procedures.
• Communicate problems to supervisor and follow instructions.
• Train and assist operators on difficult jobs and unusual instructions.
• Complete all required paperwork accurately and timely.

Position Summary

This position is responsible for setting a variety of progressive tools into punch presses. Install fixtures; make manual check of first piece; help operator as necessary. Troubleshoot tools and die protection. Run machine as needed.

**ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS **

• Review work instructions.


• Check and provide all process components including material, lubricants, and packaging, etc.


• Identify and locate proper material thickness and gauge.


• Use cart, tray, or forklift to bring necessary tools to machine.


• Set and position tooling into machine.


• Set up equipment for accurate material feeds.


• Run first piece and verify accuracy.


• Operate machine to run production as required.


• Able to use correct package and label products correctly.


• Visually inspect production for burrs, scrapes, rust, and other defects.


• Check production parts against print using various gages, micrometers, calipers, etc.


• Adjust settings as needed.


• Check and adjust hydraulic and mechanical safety controls


• Perform routine maintenance on all assigned equipment and machinery as required.


• Maintain a clean and organized work area.


• Communicate all problems and other work‑related issues with supervisor.


• Receive, understand and follow all written and oral instruction.


• Train and assist operator as needed on difficult jobs or with unusual work instructions and to adjust or re‑set work.


• Timely and accurate completion of all paperwork associated with position.


• Comply with all company policies and procedures in including safety and attendance requirements.


• Participate in activities to increase personal skill level, overall departmental processes, and product quality.


• Resolve day‑to‑day issues by working effectively with others.

Minimum Skills And Abilitites

• Ability to learn to speak, read and communicate in English


• Ability to read and understand blueprints.


• Basic shop math understanding.


• Technical knowledge of assigned machines.


• Distinguish a variety of raw materials (stainless steel, cold rolled steel, etc.)


• Effective communication, teamwork, and interpersonal skills.


• Attention to detail


• OSHA required training in Lock‑out/Tag‑out, Hazard Communication, Personal Protective Equipment and Emergency Evacuation.


• Certified Forklift Driver; operating knowledge of hoist and crane equipment

Minimum Physical Requirements

• 20/20 vision required with or without correction.


• Use of hands 100% of the workday.


• Good manual dexterity.
