Join Our Team as a Machinist!

The Punch Press Machinist - is responsible for operating a variety of Punch Press machines, and manually-controlled equipment, to produce precision parts for S&C products. The Machinist interprets blueprints in order to determine part specifications and uses various machines to craft them. They also complete basic documentation and maintenance tasks to ensure processes run smoothly and move materials when needed.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate various manual and Punch Press machines (metal forming, tool and die set-up) to fabricate parts according to standard specifications.
  • Set up machines with the appropriate materials needed to complete the job.
  • Interpret blueprints, drawings, and other technical specifications to understand the requirements for basic parts and ensure accurate fabrication.
  • Perform basic routine maintenance on machines and tools to ensure longevity and quality fabrication, including cleaning and reporting mechanical/electrical issues to department leaders.
  • Utilize an overhead crane and other material handling equipment to safely position materials for machining.
  • Complete the first-piece inspection of parts using various measurement tools, confirming that the pieces are the correct material, quality, and specifications before beginning the machining process.
  • Maintain accurate records of fabrication activities, including tracking the progress of job orders and documenting corrective action needed for the machine, part, or process.
  • Deburr metal parts using hand and/or power tools, ensuring materials are safe to handle and are in a state that's ready for further processing.
  • Meet department targets and consistently adhere to quality and safety standards.
  • Understand and comply with all applicable Company policies and rules.
What you'll Need To Succeed:
  • High School diploma/GED
  • 1+ year of demonstrated experience with the operation of manual and cutting, and punch press (metal forming) machines.
  • Ability to use hand tools and precision measuring instruments such as scales and calipers.
  • Basic knowledge of machine controls and programs.
  • Ability to read blueprints and calipers.
  • Ability to work independently and meet requirements of assigned materials requests.
  • Good communication skills (written and verbal) with the ability to articulate information efficiently and effectively to team members in a variety of production support departments.
  • Basic computer skills with the ability to review and respond to requests via internal applications.
  • Basic math skills with the ability to calculate quantities, weights, and measurements.
  • Good interpersonal and organizational skills with the ability to understand and complete requests given by team member inside and outside of the department. Ability and willingness to follow Health Safety & Environment procedures accurately, reporting concerns promptly to the safety action team.
Preferred:
  • 2+ years of Punch Press machinist and tool and die operations in manufacturing experience a plus

  • Major Physical Demands:

  • Lifting: Frequent lifting of items ranging in weight from 5 lbs. to 50 lbs.
  • Walking: Occasional walking moderate distances
  • Carrying: Frequent carrying of items ranging in weight from 5 lbs. to 25 lbs.
  • Pushing: Occasional use of electric hand truck to move parts a moderate distance.
  • Pulling: Occasional use of electric hand truck to move parts a moderate distance.
  • Bending: Frequent bending and crouching required to perform a variety of tasks. Reaching
  • Reaching: Continuous full range of motion from above the shoulders to below the knees.
  • Handling: Continuous handling of parts ranging in weight from 5 lbs. to 50 lbs., along with a variety of hand-tools.
  • Other: Most tasks are performed in a standing position with intermittent walking.
