• Current Water Distribution II certification; eligible to test for Water Distribution WDIV within 5 years.
• Or: Three years’ experience as a Water Treatment Operator with Treatment Operator II certification and WDIV eligibility within 5 years.
• High School Diploma or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Inspect and maintain water pumps, reservoirs, and related transmission/distribution equipment.
• Troubleshoot system failures regarding pumps, motors, valves, and electrical/hydraulic issues.
• Design and manage maintenance programs for pumping and storage equipment; coordinate with engineering on capital projects.
• Operate and monitor the water system using SCADA; participate in rotating on-call shifts.
• Document findings electronically and update SOPs and field records.

Eugene Water & Electric Board (EWEB) is seeking a Pump and Reservoir Technician to support the maintenance and inspection of 30 water reservoirs and 26 pump stations. This role includes both independent fieldwork and collaboration with a skilled operations team. The position offers opportunities to investigate and diagnose system anomalies, supporting continued development within the water distribution field.

Key responsibilities include the operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of water pumps, piping systems, control valves, storage reservoirs, emergency wells, and other infrastructure associated with drinking water transmission and distribution systems.

Key Responsibilities:

• Inspect and maintain transmission main appurtenances, water pumps, pump stations, water storage reservoirs, grounds, water quality instrumentation, and pressure control equipment in the EWEB water system.
• Troubleshoot system failure regarding pumps, motors, control valves, valves, incoming power, and hydraulic problems in the distribution system.
• Design and manage maintenance programs for transmission/distribution pumping and storage equipment. Work with engineering as the field contact for capital improvement projects
• Operate and monitor the water system utilizing SCADA. Work a rotating on-call shift to provide 24-hour coverage of the transmission, distribution, pumping, and storage facilities.
• Electronically document findings in the field by maintaining, updating, and creating spreadsheets, Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) or other forms of document tracking.

Work Schedule: This position requires working a rotating on-call schedule and acts as a first responder to system emergencies.

Type and frequency of personal contact required (general public, customers, organizations, and EWEB employees): Daily contact with EWEB employees, contractors and general public.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

Thestarting wage for this position is$45.8634 hourly.

This position is subject to the terms, conditions, and benefits of EWEB's collective bargaining agreement with IBEW Local 659, which includes an overtime rate of 2x the regular wage for all overtime worked and an annual HRA VEBA contribution of $3000/year paid by EWEB.

Qualifications

Minimum Experience: Five years’ field experience working with a water distribution and pumping system of relative size, plus:
Professional license or registration: Current Water Distribution II certification required. Must be eligible to test and obtain Water Distribution WDIV certification within 5 years.

Or:

Minimum Experience: Three years’ experience as a Water Treatment Operator, plus:
Professional license or registration: Current Treatment Operator II certification required. Must be eligible to test and to obtain Water Distribution WDIV certification within 5 years.

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent

Desirable education, experience, training and certifications: Oregon Health Authority, Drinking Water Program Water Treatment certifications, Oregon Building Codes Division electrical licenses, DWS Backflow Assembly Tester certification or Specialist, welding experience or certifications. General machine work experience.

Valid driver license: Yes, Class A CDL, or the ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.

Professional license or registration: Current Water Distribution II Certification and the ability to obtain Water Distribution WDIV within 5 years.

Apprenticeship or other education/training required as a condition of employment, progression or advancement: Continuation of employment is contingent upon obtaining an Oregon State certification in Water Distribution, Grade WDIV, within 5 years; must obtain a first aid/CPR card.
