Job summary

Valero Memphis Refinery seeks a Pump Mechanic to install, inspect, and maintain rotating equipment, including pumps, compressors, and gear boxes, in a safety-focused environment. The role requires on-site work, a high school diploma or GED, a journeyman certification, and at least five years of rotating equipment experience; familiarity with schematics and drawings is a plus.

Overtime applies as this is an hourly, nonexempt position.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years rotating equipment experience.

Responsibilities

  • Installs, inspects, and maintains rotating equipment within the refinery.
  • Inspects, troubleshoots and performs maintenance on rotating equipment per API/ASME/ANSI standards and OEM specifications.
  • Adjusts and aligns machinery and equipment.
  • Reads and interprets schematics and drawings.
  • Set-up, prepare, and inspect the work site.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of basic physical and mechanical principles and craft math.
  • Understands bearings, seals, compressors, pumps and cylinders, valve and pipe configurations, shaft packing, and drive systems.
  • Follows guidelines and procedures to ensure that rotating equipment is working in a safe and reliable manner.

  • Installs, inspects, and maintains rotating equipment within the refinery.
  • Inspects, troubleshoots and performs maintenance on rotating equipment (centrifugal pumps, compressors, turbines, gear boxes, blowers, fin fans, etc.) per API/ASME/ANSI standards and OEM specifications.
  • Adjusts and aligns machinery and equipment.
  • Uses hand and power tools to complete assigned work tasks.
  • Reads and interprets schematics and drawings.
  • Is able to set-up, prepare, and inspect the work site.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of basic physical and mechanical principles and craft math.
  • Understands bearings, seals, compressors, pumps and cylinders, valve and pipe configurations, shaft packing, and drive systems.
  • Understands characteristics of metals and is knowledgeable about the various types and applications of lubricants.
  • Follows guidelines and procedures to ensure that rotating equipment is working in a safe and reliable manner..

This position is hourly nonexempt status, which means you are eligible for overtime pay.

Qualifications:

Minimum Requirements:

  • Able and willing to work on-site, in-person at the Valero Memphis Refinery, required.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Journeyman certification (or equivalent) from an accredited source required.
  • A minimum of 5 years of Rotating Equipment or related experience, which could include experience as a machinist, millwright, or pump mechanic required.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Three (3) years maintenance experience in the petrochemical field preferred.
  • Previous experience with machine shop equipment such as column drills, lathes, milling machines and associated tooling preferred.
