Job summary

Valero is seeking a Maintenance Technician to support the McKee Refinery in Sunray, TX. You will install, inspect, and maintain rotating equipment and pumps, adjust machinery, and ensure safe, reliable operation on-site.

The role emphasizes hands-on maintenance, safety compliance, and teamwork in a unionized, high-output refinery environment. This is an hourly, nonexempt position with overtime eligibility.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 1 year Rotating Equipment or related experience, or a degree in the field.
• Able and willing to work on-site at the McKee Refinery.

Responsibilities

• Installs, inspects, and maintains rotating equipment within the refinery.
• Inspects and maintains pumps; adjusts and aligns machinery and equipment.
• Uses hand and power tools to complete tasks and set up work sites.
• Follows safety guidelines to ensure equipment operates reliably and safely.

Duties

At Valero, this role performs duties that support our commitment to advancing the future of energy through innovation, ingenuity, and unmatched execution, including:

• Installs, inspects, and maintains rotating equipment within the refinery.
• Inspects and performs maintenance on pumps.
• Adjusts and aligns machinery and equipment.
• Uses hand and power tools to complete assigned work tasks. Is able to set-up, prepare, and inspect the work site.
• Demonstrates knowledge of basic physical and mechanical principles and craft math.
• Understands bearings, seals, compressors, pumps and cylinders, valve and pipe configurations, shaft packing, and drive systems.
• Understands characteristics of metals and is knowledgeable about the various types and applications of lubricants.
• Follows guidelines and procedures to ensure that rotating equipment is working in a safe and reliable manner.
• This position is hourly nonexempt status, which means you are eligible for overtime pay.

• A minimum of 1 year Rotating Equipment or related experience, which could include experience as a machinist, millwright, or pump mechanic OR a degree in one of these fields required.
