Job summary

OCWA – Central New York’s Water Authority is seeking a Pump Maintenance Worker to join the Operations Department in Syracuse, NY. The role involves semi-skilled preventative maintenance and operation procedures for pumps and related equipment at pump stations and treatment facilities.

The position requires rotating shifts, adherence to safety procedures, and the ability to perform minor repairs and reports on equipment efficiency for supervisory review.

Qualifications

  • Some knowledge of the functions and operation principles of pumps, valves and other mechanical equipment.
  • Some knowledge of safety and precautions in work.
  • Ability to read and write.
  • Ability to understand and carry out simple oral and written instructions.

Responsibilities

  • Starts, adjusts and stops pumps, compressors and other auxiliary equipment and machinery.
  • Alternates pumps by opening and closing by-pass valves.
  • Maintains check on efficiency of equipment through observation and checking of gauges.
  • Cleans pumps and machinery; may make minor adjustments where required.
  • Makes reports in simple figure entry form on machinery efficiency for return to supervisor.
  • Checks and fills oil gauges on various pumps with proper lubricating agents.
  • May collect water and wastewater samples when directed.
  • Performs minor repairs on equipment.
  • May operate a bulk collection truck when directed.
  • Performs miscellaneous custodial duties.
