Qualifications

Job description

Pulmonary Technologist II-Exercise Physiologist/Respiratory Therapist

Purpose: Under the general supervision of the Medical and Administrative Directors of Pulmonary Services, the Pulmonary Technologist II is responsible for all aspects of the technical, analytical, and instructional duties related to high-risk procedures in pulmonary evaluation and patient testing.

Responsibilities:

• Maintain and calibrate diagnostic equipment, perform troubleshooting, and make minor adjustments as necessary.
• Assist in providing emergency medical care.
• Perform cardiopulmonary stress testing, including arterial line insertion and maintenance, and administer medications for patient preparation.
• Conduct exercise desaturation and home oxygen evaluations, and obtain arterial blood gas and hemoglobin samples.
• Perform pulmonary diagnostic tests such as spirometry, lung volumes, and diffusing capacity, and administer respiratory medications as per policies/protocols.
• Assist with department orientation, staff and student education, and research activities.
• Support the Department Supervisor in monitoring and improving the Quality Assurance Program, including evaluating new testing equipment and techniques.
• Responsible for comprehensive bronchoprovocation challenge testing procedures.

Qualifications: Must be credentialed by the NBRC as a Certified or Registered Pulmonary Function Technologist, or certified as an Exercise Specialist or Exercise Physiologist by the American College of Sports Medicine, or credentialed by the NBRC as a Respiratory Care Practitioner with one year of pulmonary diagnostic testing experience, or equivalent proficiency. Must obtain CPFT credential within 2 years of hire. BLS certification is required; ACLS certification must be obtained within one year. Ability to interact with unstable patients and operate complex medical electronic equipment is essential.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances: CPR required within 30 days of hire based on AHA standards, including didactic and skills demonstration components. ACLS or BLS certification is required.
