Job summary

Northwell Health is seeking a Respiratory Therapist to support pulmonary rehabilitation, smoking cessation and home care collaboration. The role acts as a resource for other disciplines and aims to improve patient outcomes.

Responsibilities include evaluating patients, planning and applying rehab plans, providing education to patients and families, and collaborating with care teams to optimize therapy in both outpatient and inpatient settings.

Qualifications

• Associates Level degree.
• Registered Respiratory Therapist by the NBRC.
• BLS certification.
• Connecticut State Licensure-Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP).
• Bachelor Level Degree (desired).
• Completion of Pulmonary Rehab Certificate Course sponsored by the AARC (desired).
• Maintain NBRC credential.
• Maintain RCP CT state licensure.

Responsibilities

• Completes initial evaluation of patients referred to the pulmonary rehabilitation program, selects outpatient respiratory care modalities, asthma education, tracheostomy care or smoking cessation counseling.
• Plans treatment for each patient based on the assessment and implements the rehabilitation plan.
• Documents results of teaching and educates patients and families at an appropriate level.
• Maintains ongoing communication with patients with chronic lung disease and assists with patient satisfaction surveys.
• Updates knowledge through in-hospital and external education; precepts respiratory therapy students.
• Performs procedures such as spirometry, nebulizer therapy, arterial blood draws and emergency procedures as needed.
