Job summary

Axle is hiring a Pulmonary Function Technician to support NHLBI at NIH in Bethesda, MD. You will perform pulmonary function and exercise testing, monitor patients, calibrate equipment, and support QA and data management for research studies.

The role requires handling adult and pediatric patients, coordinating with investigators, and maintaining accurate records while contributing to reports and presentations.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in biology.
• BLS provider card and ACLS or PALS card.
• Clinical skills in pulmonary function testing with adults and children.
• Experience with QA testing, data collection, and equipment maintenance.
• Proficiency with Microsoft PowerPoint and Outlook.
• Inspect equipment as needed.
• Meet with laboratory members weekly to present updates.

Responsibilities

• Perform pulmonary function testing, including lung volumes and airway resistance by plethysmography, oscillometry, methacholine provocation, and NO measurements.
• Conduct cardiopulmonary exercise tests and six-minute walk tests with arterial blood gases.
• Review testing orders and ensure pre-study procedures are completed.
• Monitor responses during testing and provide first aid as needed.
• Help develop standard operating procedures for pulmonary function and exercise testing.
• Set up, calibrate, and troubleshoot diagnostic instruments and systems.
• Maintain QA database and assist with data quality improvements.
• Train staff and trainees in testing procedures and equipment.
• Document clinical information in EMR and maintain testing records.
• Analyze data with lab staff and contribute to reports and posters.
