Summary:
The RCP in Ambulatory performs the functions of a respiratory care practitioner in direct care. This position utilizes the respiratory care process in the delivery of developmentally appropriate care and works effectively with members of the health care team, including the family in the provision of care to patients. The incumbent performs the functions of a respiratory care practitioner in direct care and utilizes the respiratory care process in the delivery of developmentally appropriate care.

Responsibilities:
* Description of Essential Functions of the position
* Demonstrates competence in professional practice:
* 1. Utilizes established standards of evidence based care to guide practice. 2. Provides direct patient care including: mechanical ventilation, aerosol therapy, pulmonary hygience, suctioning, oxygen therapy, inhaled gases. 3. Documents patient status, patient response, and respiratory practitioner interventions accurately and clearly. 4. Provides and reinforces health teaching with patients and families. 5. Participates in multidisciplinary treatment team. 6. Preceptor for novice therapists.
* 7. Utilizes available resources to impact patient care and solve practice problems.
* 8. Is a member of interdisciplinary committee/project/task force.
* 9. Practice contributes toward achieving Respiratory Care Vision Statement. 10. Utilizes the National Patient Safety Goals to provide a safe environment for patients. Maintains a safe environment fo r self and others. 11. Perform diagnostic testing in pulmonary lab.
* Participates in the development of professional and educational activities:
* 1. Participates in continuing educational opportunities at Children’s
* 2. Supports professional organization of Respiratory Care
* 3. Shares pertinent information gained from professional seminars, conferences, books, or journals.
* 4. Assists in identifying learning needs of staff therapist and other healthcare workers.
* 5. Develops, presents and evaluates programs to meet educational needs of other healthcare workers. 6. Is a member of interdisciplinary committee/project/task force.
* Incorporates research to clinical practice:
* 1. Demonstrates knowledge of research and quality improvement activities.
* 2. Reads and evaluates current research that has implications for clinical practice.
* 3. Shares research findings with colleagues in order to improve clinical practice.
* 4. Participates in research and quality improvement activities.


How You’ll Be Successful:

WORK EXPERIENCE
* At least 2 years full time experience following graduation from a Respiratory Care program. Req
* At least 3 years experience, preferably in pediatric/ neonatal care Pref
* Associates Degree in Respiratory Care Pref

*Asthma education expereience is preferred


EDUCATION
* Two-year Associate's degree or equivalent experience Req
* Four-year Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience Pref

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS
* Current Texas license Req
* RRT Req
* Completion in Basic Life Support (BLS) for Health Care Providers (HCPs) through the American Heart Association (AHA) in accordance with their job description. Req
* Must obtain PACES certification within 6 months of hire. Req
* AARC Membership, NPS, CPFT or RPFT Pref
* Asthma Management Program only: Asthma Educator certification within one and a half (1.5) years of hire Req
* Asthma Management Program only: Valid Texas driver license Req
