Job summary

Nashville Public Radio is seeking a detail‑oriented production editor to oversee the creation of quality journal content for web and print. You will manage editing, proofreading, and publishing workflows, ensuring deadlines, accuracy, and consistency across platforms.

The role requires collaboration across editorial and production teams, strong command of English, and proficiency with Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Suite.

Qualifications

  • College degree preferred and a minimum of three years of publishing experience or a combination of education and experience
  • Proven command of editing and/or proofreading skills
  • Working knowledge of publication processes and procedures
  • Ability to work across teams with a variety of projects and workflows
  • Practical experience with a variety of software applications, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, OneNote); Adobe Creative Suite (PhotoShop, Illustrator, Adobe Acrobat, InDesign, and Bridge)
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing is essential. Solid command of the English language

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate content assets using a content management system (document submission, component, and web)
  • Compile material for web and print publication of journal articles and issues according to a defined schedule
  • Respond to and resolve a wide range of queries from authors, editors, and publishing partners
  • Coordinate author and editor reviews of page proofs; proactively corresponding with authors, editors, and publishing partners to ensure that deadlines are met
  • Copy editing books, journals, magazines, eNewsletters, and online databases
  • Editing images (resizing, scaling, cropping) for web and print, tagging content for composition
  • Compiling and composing e-mail newsletters, composing pages of books, final programs, datasheets
  • Optimizing pdfs, adding metadata, and uploading to online publishing content management system
  • Converting source documents for web publishing (ebooks and downloadable documents)
  • Proofreading and verifying accuracy of content for web and print
  • Archiving electronic and hard-copy assets
  • Coordinating distribution of published content to Library of Congress, abstracters, and indexers
  • Ensure ASM standards and styles are met and products are high quality by using provided tools: product standard operating instructions, ASM style guide, The Chicago Manual of Style, Associated Press Stylebook, composition specifications.
