Job summary

The Experiment seeks a full-time publishing assistant to work closely with the publisher and associate publisher, focusing on editorial, publicity, and marketing. This NYC in-person role offers exposure to the entire publishing process and collaboration with editors, marketers, and designers.

Responsibilities include drafting copy, copy-editing, researching acquisitions, drafting publicity materials, managing social media, and assisting with office operations.

Qualifications

• A bachelor’s degree is required.
• Superlative organizational, verbal, and written communication skills.
• A highly developed sense of curiosity and meticulous attention to detail.
• Superlative time‑management skills and the ability to multitask across activities and projects.
• Ability and inclination to work both independently and collaboratively.
• A strong interest in nonfiction publishing, especially in the areas in which The Experiment publishes.
• Some previous experience in editorial & or media publicity and marketing useful, but not required.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office; knowledge of HTML/CSS, and InDesign, and Photoshop a plus.

Responsibilities

• Editorial: assist with acquisitions research, drafting copy, copy-editing and proofreading as needed; monitor submissions.
• Publicity/marketing: draft pitches and releases, manage NetGalley, plan social media calendar, and coordinate campaigns.
• Office management: support publisher/COO/CFO with daily operations and mail runs.
