Job summary

Arlington County Government seeks a designer to create and assemble visual materials for publications, posters, exhibits, and other communications. The role centers on graphic art presentations, layouts, and illustrations, using specialized desktop publishing tools.

Responsibilities include planning exhibits, evaluating print quality, sending proofs, and coordinating with clients on project specifications within County guidelines.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Art, Graphic Design, Illustration, or related field with 3 years of experience in publication design and graphic arts.
  • Additional qualifying experience may substitute education on a year-for-year basis.
  • Desirable: experience with desktop publishing on MAC G3 (Quark 4.0), Sunfish 40, and Pro Star SL-170P; or ability to explain graphic procedures to clients.

Responsibilities

  • Develop graphic art presentations and layouts.
  • Design, lay out, and prepare general and technical illustration work.
  • Plan and design exhibits using photographs, captions, text, and objects.
  • Evaluate reproductive quality of illustrations; assess printing processes and costs.
  • Send proofs to customers and track jobs through print production; consult with clients on project specs.
