Job summary

City of Phoenix is seeking a skilled welder to fabricate, repair, and modify metal equipment for the Public Works Fleet Division. The role involves welding ferrous and non‑ferrous metals, and performing repairs on heavy‑duty machinery to ensure reliability and safety.

The ideal candidate will have at least one year of welding experience or a recognized apprenticeship, with the ability to read blueprints and follow drawings. Excellent safety practices are essential.

Qualifications

• One year of experience as a skilled welder or completion of a recognized welding apprenticeship.
• Experience reading blueprints or sketches for fabrication/repair work.
• Ability to perform welding on ferrous and non-ferrous metals and follow safety procedures.

Responsibilities

• Weld and repair metal equipment using MIG, TIG, ARC and acetylene processes.
• Weld from blueprints, sketches, or oral instructions with independence.
• Perform mechanical repairs on heavy‑duty equipment and maintain records.
• Work with welding equipment and automated controls and systems.
