Job summary

City of Weslaco is seeking a skilled equipment operator in its Public Works department. The role involves repairing and maintaining city streets using backhoes, loaders, excavators, dump trucks and paving equipment, and assisting with ditch cleaning and other projects across Weslaco city limits.

You will perform routine equipment maintenance, read maps for work sites, and respond to emergencies as needed. A high school diploma is required; 3–5 years experience and a valid Class B CDL are

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Three to five years of related work experience.
• Valid Class B CDL preferred but not required.
• Must pass pre-employment background check and drug screen.
• Emergency Management and Incident Command Training within three months.

Responsibilities

• Maintain regular and prompt attendance; physically present to work.
• Operates equipment such as backhoe, front end loader, excavator, dump truck, and similar equipment used in the completion of public works projects.
• Uses hand tools to cut grass, clean sidewalks, and remove debris from city rights-of-way.
• Operates paving equipment for street overlay reconstruction and performs routine maintenance on equipment and trucks.
• Work is self-checking; follow supervisor guidance for new or unusual assignments.
