Job summary

The Town of Holly Springs is seeking a Public Works Technician in the Solid Waste division to perform yard waste and debris collection from residential streets and public areas, ensuring safe operations and adherence to town policies.

You will drive refuse collection vehicles, assist with routes, maintain records, respond to emergencies, and support festival events, with a schedule that varies and includes weekend and weather-related shifts.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of safe solid waste handling practices.
• Knowledge of items banned from disposal in landfills.
• Knowledge of hazardous waste and yard waste.
• Knowledge of traffic safety principles.
• Working knowledge of OSHA safety precautions and PPE.
• Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
• Ability to manage time and prioritize duties in a high-volume environment.
• Ability to communicate clearly in English with staff and public.

Responsibilities

• Operate refuse collection vehicle and collect residential trash/recycling/yard waste.
• Collect yard waste debris from public streets.
• Complete assigned routes safely and on time.
• Operate equipment safely and follow traffic safety procedures.
• Maintain records and reports of daily activities.
• Respond to customer complaints and emergencies as needed.
• Assist with event set-up and cleanup.
• Open/secure yard waste facility during operating hours.
