Job summary

City of Champlin is seeking a Seasonal Public Works Maintenance Worker to support daily tasks across streets, parks, and ballfields, including mowing and grounds upkeep. The role also assists with irrigation and cemetery maintenance and helps keep street and park signs in good condition.

You will operate mowers, trimmers, and basic power tools, follow safety procedures, and work under City policies. Requirements include a High School Diploma or GED, 18+ years old, and a valid Class D driver's

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Assist with street maintenance: pothole repairs, crack filling, asphalt patching, street sweeping.
• Mow, trim, and pick up garbage in park system.
• Prepare and maintain athletic fields, ballfields, playgrounds, shelters, and rec facilities.
• Assist irrigation system maintenance and operation.
• Support cemetery operations: mowing, weed control, grounds maintenance, grave prep.
• Operate mowers, trimmers, utility vehicles, and power tools safely.

Position Summary

The Public Works Maintenance Worker is a seasonal role that assists Public Service Workers with daily work tasks. This position involves performing comprehensive maintenance duties across streets, parks, and ballfields, including repair, mowing, and cleaning tasks. This position supports irrigation and cemetery maintenance, assists with the upkeep of street and park signs, and contributes to landscape maintenance efforts such as weeding and mulching.

Essential Job Duties And Responsibilities

• Assist Public Works staff with street maintenance activities including pothole repairs, crack filling, asphalt patching, street sweeping, and related roadway maintenance.
• Conduct park maintenance by mowing, trimming, and picking up garbage within the park system.
• Assist with preparation and maintenance of athletic fields, ballfields, playgrounds, shelters, and recreational facilities.
• Assist in the repair, maintenance, and operation of irrigation systems.
• Assist with cemetery operations, including mowing, trimming, weed control, grounds maintenance, and grave preparation activities.
• Operate mowers, string trimmers, utility vehicles, hand tools, power tools, and other equipment necessary to complete assigned tasks.
• Assist with the repair and replacement of street and park signs.
• Contribute to landscape maintenance efforts, including weed pulling, mulching, and replacing planted areas.
• Follow established safety procedures and safe work practices.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Temporary/seasonal positions earn 1 hour of the MN mandated Sick and Safe Time (ESST) for every 30 hours worked. No other benefits are provided.
