Job summary

The City of Nacogdoches is hiring a Sanitation Collection Driver to operate solid waste trucks and keep our city clean and safe. You will drive different truck types along planned routes, collecting trash and recyclables from residential and commercial sites.

As a working lead on routes, you will guide crew members in proper pickup procedures, perform basic vehicle checks, and assist with recycling tasks using forklifts or skid steers as needed.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED and at least two years of truck driving experience.
• Valid Class B Texas CDL with endorsements required.
• Ability to perform physical tasks outdoors in all weather conditions.

The City of Nacogdoches is seeking a dependable and dedicated Sanitation Collection Driver to operate solid waste trucks and keep our city clean and safe.

Key Responsibilities

Drive and operate solid waste collection trucks (including Front-Load Commercial, Residential Side-Load, Roll-Off and Rear-Load Packer trucks) along designated routes.

Safely collect and dispose of residential and commercial garbage, yard waste, refuse and recycable materials.

Serve as a working lead on assigned routes, guiding crew members in proper pickup and disposal procedures.

Perform routine vehicle inspections and minor maintenance (check fluids, tire pressure) to ensure equipment safety.

Support city recycling efforts using equipment like forklifts and skid steers as needed.

Qualifications

• A valid Class B Texas Commercial Driver's license (CDL). (Additional certification pay up to $160.00 per month depending on class and endorsements)
• High school diploma / GED and at least two (2) or more years of truck driving and equipment operation experience.
• Ability to perform physical tasks, work comfortably outdoors and in all weather conditions.
• Previous waste collection and heavy truck driving experience preferred.
• Knowledge of safe driving practices, mobile technology (iPads/tablets) for route optimization and strong communication skills.
